They’ll study your glow-up more than your polished final form. 🔥

I keep coming back to this old clip of Meek Mill as a teenager, spitting acapella in the streets. The footage is grainy, the audio is rough, but the bar is ice cold: “Them summer nights can even turn cold.” 🥶

That video wasn’t made for a campaign, it was a kid documenting his reality. Fast forward, and it’s content gold. It doesn’t just show talent. It shows hunger, environment, and growth. It makes the success story hit different.

Real talk: Your raw beginnings are your most powerful future marketing asset. But you have to capture them now, before you feel “ready.”

⚡️ The perfect moment will never come.
⚡️ The rough draft you post today is the legacy content that builds trust tomorrow.

That’s how you create day one, hard-core fans. Not with polish with proof. They ride for you because they saw you in the cold summer nights, long before the world caught up.

Start now. Document everything. Your journey is the content.

Lil Nas X dropped the original version of “Old Town Road” after buying the beat off BeatStars for $30. But when the song blew up, he had to circle back and secure the rights properly. Luckily, he and the producer, YoungKio, sorted things out and split everything the right way.

But imagine the producer had refused.
Now imagine you’re an indie Zambian artist, and the producer is based in Russia or Brazil.
How do you fix that?

Let’s talk about it:

The Truth About YouTube Beats, Free Downloads & Copyright Nightmares

Upcoming artists especially in Afrobeats are walking into this trap every day:

You find a fire beat on YouTube.
It says “Free for non-profit.”
You record, release, promote…
Then suddenly, the song starts picking up steam.

And boom:

Your song gets taken down from streaming platforms.

Your YouTube revenue goes straight to the producer.

Or worse—you get hit with a copyright strike you can’t undo.

Why?
Because “free” didn’t mean you could make money off it.
It meant you could vibe, not profit.

Here’s What’s Really Going On:

If you didn’t:

Buy a proper license

Or sign an agreement with the producer

You’re basically using copyrighted material without permission.

And that’s risky—especially if the song starts doing numbers.

How To Avoid the Problems:

1. Get your paperwork done. Don’t rely on WhatsApp voice notes and vibes.

2. Don’t assume ownership. If it’s not documented, it’s not yours.

3. Can’t get a license? Hire a producer to recreate something inspired by the beat—not a copy. That’s influence, not infringement.

Buying a beat from someone you’ve never met? That’s risky too.

They might’ve sold it to someone else already.

Another artist could’ve uploaded a version first.

DSPs might still flag your version as the infringing one even if you paid.

Final Advice:

Your beat is the foundation of your song.
If the legal side is shaky, the whole building can collapse once the song goes viral.

Sort your agreements before you upload—don’t wait till the buzz starts.

As an upcoming musician, consistently releasing music is a powerful strategy for building a dedicated fanbase. Here’s why it matters:

1. Visibility and Industry Attention: Regularly sharing your music helps increase your visibility in the competitive music industry. A growing fanbase attracts attention from record labels, managers, and booking agents. Opportunities like performing at larger venues and festivals become more accessible when you have an engaged following.

2. Loyal Fans and Sustained Support: Engaged fans are more likely to interact with your content, attend live performances, and purchase merchandise. This loyalty translates into sustained support, providing financial stability and allowing you to focus on your music.

3. Career Opportunities: A strong fanbase opens doors to collaborations, sponsorships, and media exposure. Brands seek artists with significant followings to tap into their audience, enhancing your career prospects.

4. Feedback and Refinement: Your fanbase provides valuable feedback on your music. Analyzing fan responses helps you understand what resonates with your audience, allowing you to tailor your music accordingly.

Remember, perfection can be the enemy of progress. So, start sharing your music, connect with your audience, and let your fanbase grow organically! 🎵🔥

P.S. Keke Palmer would approve!😉🎤

Absolutely! Promoting your older songs is a smart move, even when you have new music on the horizon.

Here are five compelling reasons why you should keep those classic tracks in the spotlight:

1. Older Releases Are Still Popular: Believe it or not, your older songs can dominate streaming charts. Fans love revisiting familiar tunes, so don’t underestimate their lasting appeal.

2. Fans Prefer Previous Releases: Listeners often gravitate toward your existing catalog rather than just your latest singles. So, give them what they want by promoting those tried-and-true tracks.

3. Maintain Streaming Momentum: When you’re between new releases, promoting older songs keeps your streaming numbers active. It’s a great way to engage both new and current listeners.

4. A Great Song Is Timeless: Quality music transcends release dates. If you’ve got a gem in your back catalogue, share it—regardless of when it was first released¹.

5. Reach New Audiences: There will always be people who haven’t heard your music yet. Introduce them to your best work, whether it’s old or new.

Remember, consistency matters. Leverage your proven hits, create engaging content, and keep those older songs alive! 🎵🔥
