๐ŸŽฏ How the UK Set the Benchmark for Small-Scale Fisheries Monitoring

Modernising the monitoring of thousands of small-scale fishing vessels is a complex challenge. It requires technology adapted to artisanal fleets, operational support in the field and close collaboration with fisheries authorities.

๐Ÿ‘ The UK has demonstrated that this transition is possible.

๐ŸŸ Today, more than 1,200 NEMO devices support England's national I-VMS programme for vessels under 12 metres. Initially type-approved by the MMO in 2021, NEMO is now the only device transmitting positional data to the UK VMS Hub, helping improve visibility over fishing activities while supporting regulatory compliance.

๐Ÿ“Š Key figures:
- 1,200+ NEMO devices deployed
- 190 ports involved in the rollout
- Supporting England's national I-VMS programme

Purpose-built for small-scale fisheries, NEMO combines solar-powered operation, hybrid satellite and cellular connectivity, and reliable position reporting to support sustainable fisheries management.

๐ŸŒŠ Reliable offshore wind decisions depend on reliable environmental data.

As projects move into deeper waters and more challenging offshore environments, collecting data is only part of the equation. Developers also need to ensure measurement continuity, understand site-specific metocean conditions and combine observations with robust wind resource modelling.

This is where an integrated approach becomes critical.

๐Ÿ“ At Wind Energy Hamburg 2026, Richard Liptrot from CLS UK will join our colleagues at the Meteodyn booth to discuss how we support developers by bringing together field measurements, satellite-derived and advanced numerical modelling.

๐ŸŒŠ Drawing on CLS UK's extensive metocean and offshore measurement expertise, our teams support the acquisition and interpretation of the environmental data needed to characterise sites and manage measurement campaigns in demanding offshore conditions.

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ This field expertise is complemented by DeepCLiDAR for autonomous offshore wind measurements and by Meteodyn's wind intelligence capabilities, including advanced atmospheric modelling and SARWindยฎ satellite-derived wind data.

Together, these capabilities provide developers with complementary sources of environmental information to reduce uncertainty and strengthen technical decisions throughout the offshore wind project lifecycle.

๐Ÿค Going to WindEnergy Hamburg? Meet Richard and our experts at the Meteodyn booth (Hall A1, 427) from 22โ€“25 September.

From quayside to offshore.

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Before environmental data can support critical offshore engineering decisions, every observation system must be rigorously integrated, tested and validated.

This week, the CLS teams were on the quayside in Sรจte, France, carrying out the final validation of two DeepCLiDAR buoys before their imminent deployment for an offshore wind resource assessment campaign.

โš™๏ธ Preparing a DeepCLiDAR for offshore deployment involves much more than transporting a buoy to sea. Before mobilisation, the teams carry out the final integration, configuration and validation of the system to ensure it is ready for long-term autonomous operation in demanding offshore environments.

Final integration. Final checks. Soon, offshore.

๐ŸŒ DeepCLiDAR is part of CLS' integrated Environmental Intelligence portfolio, supporting offshore green energy projects throughout their entire lifecycle.
By combining complementary technologies and expertise, CLS helps developers reduce uncertainty from planning to operations through:
๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ SARWind: satellite-derived offshore wind resource assessment
๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ DeepCLiDAR: Carbon Trust-certified floating LiDAR and metocean measurements
๐ŸŒŠ Meteodyn: high-resolution CFD modelling and metocean studies
๐Ÿ‹ Quiet-Oceans: underwater acoustic monitoring and environmental impact assessment
๐Ÿ“ก Ground Control: resilient satellite connectivity supporting remote offshore operations

Together, these complementary capabilities deliver the integrated environmental intelligence required to support site selection, engineering design, permitting, installation, operations and environmental monitoring across offshore wind and marine energy projects.

Planning your next offshore wind or marine infrastructure project? Our experts are ready to help you combine in-situ measurements, satellite Earth observation, numerical modelling and environmental intelligence to reduce uncertainty and support confident decision-making.

๐ŸŒŠ The offshore wind market is evolving and it is time to discuss what is driving this business in the world.

The discussions shaping the offshore wind sector today clearly show that the challenge is no longer only about deploying turbines.

๐ŸŒ As projects move further offshore and infrastructure becomes increasingly interconnected, the industry now faces growing complexity around grid integration, environmental monitoring, uncertainty, offshore infrastructure surveillance and operational risk reduction.

In this context, access to reliable environmental and operational intelligence is becoming a strategic requirement for the offshore wind industry.

๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ At CLS, we support this transformation through advanced offshore intelligence and decision-support solutions dedicated to renewable energy projects.

By combining geospatial data, metocean expertise and operational intelligence, we help developers and operators improve reliability, reduce uncertainty and optimize offshore operations throughout the project lifecycle.

Our expertise includes:
โœ” floating LiDAR and wind measurement solutions
โœ” metocean data and forecasting
โœ” CFD-based wind resource assessment

โš™๏ธ Simplifying GMDSS compliance without compromising performance.

For shipowners and technical managers, satellite communications systems must do more than meet regulatory requirements, they need to be easy to install, maintain and operate throughout the vessel's lifecycle.

The LT-3100S GMDSS terminal has been designed with exactly that in mind.
โœ… Single-cable architecture with antenna installation up to 500m from the control unit
โœ… Built-in webserver enabling remote configuration and maintenance
โœ… Compact design for easier integration on newbuilds and retrofit projects
โœ… Integrated GNSS/GPS, LRIT, SSAS, BAM and ECDIS interfaces
โœ… 100% global GMDSS coverage through the Iridium network

By reducing installation complexity and ongoing maintenance requirements, the LT-3100S helps operators improve operational efficiency while maintaining full GMDSS compliance worldwide.

๐Ÿšจ What if your vesselโ€™s position couldnโ€™t be trusted?

In regions like the Arabian Gulf, GNSS interference has become a daily reality.

Jamming, spoofing, and significant position drift are no longer rare events.
โžก๏ธ Ships can appear miles away from their actual location.
โžก๏ธ AIS data may become inconsistent or misleading.
โžก๏ธ Crews may unknowingly rely on corrupted navigation inputs.

When positioning data is compromised, maintaining control becomes critical.

So how do you operate when GNSS canโ€™t be relied on?
Join our upcoming webinar to discover how RockFLEET Assured helps maintain operational control in disrupted environments:
โœ” Reliable positioning, independent of
โœ” Instant alerts for jamming and spoofing events
โœ” Clear distinction between authentic and manipulated positions
