Magia Mondays next week will be the publication of a white paper on Oracle's Digital Assistant in the HR space. This is a really powerful product that goes way beyond a back and forth with an employee - it can, for example, access Oracle HCM data directly and search a knowledge base. We will discuss the kind of experience you can offer employees as well as a look at what's happening beyond the scenes.

Thank you to all those who attended our second Magia Mondays session, presented by Evert Fernandes and hosted by Jon Watson.

The session was a continuation of the previous week's session on Inclusive Design.

Evert created a new Intelligent Advisor rulebase, dropped in the styling controls and showed us how it rendered. He then showed us how to create tables, embedded those within tabs, and those within accordions. This creates a modern UI that goes way beyond what's available out-of-the-box. Plus, of course, it's all GDS compliant.

There's a clear delineation between the technical side of this and rule authoring. The rule author only needs to drop in an inclusion or the custom files directly; and to understand how to expose the elements using properties. Other than that it's all standard rule authoring but with a far more advanced UI.

Evert ended on a very valid point: although the webinars have been based on GDS, it could of course apply to any corporate styling.

The ideal scenario is a single inclusion of stylings that can then be applied to many rulebases. This ensures consistency and is a good example of re-use.

At Magia Consulting, our CEO Leona encourages us to think about the "why" behind our work, and be purpose-led when delivering our technology solutions. This means taking a step back, and thinking about the people that will use this work. Who are they? What do they need? How can we help them?

In most cases, the answer to this is you - the person who has to grapple with an unfamiliar form, often in stressful situations.

Evert and Jon will be diving deep into our process to create an Intelligent Advisor interview that meets GDS & accessibility requirements. By taking full advantage of the less-often used features of Intelligent Advisor, Evert demonstrates how tweaking "behind the scenes" allows Rule Authors to focus on what's vital - the customer experience.

The Gov.uk website - https://loom.ly/A3eZZY4 - has excellent resources for public sector organisations to follow when designing sites for the public to use. Did you know, for instance, that at least 1 in 5 people in the UK have a long term illness, impairment or disability? The site goes on to say that "many more have a temporary disability". That’s a lot of people.

Microsoft provides excellent resources on its inclusive design page - https://loom.ly/ujnlp4M - and there's also a lot of information on the web about creating accessible content, not least the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and tools like the WaveWeb Accessibility Evaluation Tool - https://loom.ly/W6Gkuas - recommended by the Government Digital Service.

One of our team, Gina Balducci, is an American living in Ireland and she's shared what St. Patrick's Day is like in the country where St Patrick is celebrated as patron saint.

St Patrick's is typically all about 'ceol agus craic' (music and fun). This year however, with the massive Dublin parade and local celebrations once again being postponed, the message and theme chosen for the virtual festivities is "Duisigh Eire! ~ Awaken Ireland! Throw off the long dark months and rise to embrace the brighter days ahead!"

Happy International Women's Day from our team at Magia Consulting.

We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of females within Magia, as well as our powerful womxn colleagues at our partners and customers.
Gender equality is a goal we're still working towards, especially within the technology sector.
Over the last year, we have made a number of strategic changes in support of diversity within our small organisation, and more broadly in support of encouraging more womxn in technology:
- Appointed Nicole Waymark as Diversity Leader;
- Pledged to the Tech She Can charter to contribute to inspiring young womxn and girls to consider a career in the Technology sector;
- Changed our recruitment strategy to make our available roles more visible to less represented groups, so our pool of candidates is more diverse and varied than the typical ratio. We've linked one such job board (LMF) in the comments below, and many more exist!
- Continued to support the diverse needs of our staff. Prior to Covid, we enabled home and flexible working for those with caring and household responsibilities (which are still disproportionately taken on by womxn), and we are continuing to adapt and be responsive as an organisation to manage the needs of our employees throughout the pandemic.

We are also proud to be one of a minority of Oracle Partners with a female Chief Executive Officer.

There has never been a better time to celebrate and champion the womxn that you value too!
