Great to hear that Mark Holt’s Munich ‘72. The Visual Output of Otl Aicher's Dept. XI has successfully@been funded on

The book is the culmination of 3 years work incorporating story and image research at various archives in Ulm and Koblenz (Germany) and Lausanne (Switzerland) as well as the Nick Roericht archive in Ulm. Over 20 people on Aicher’s team have contributed their recollections, and hundreds of pieces correspondence have been translated to understand the work of Otl Aicher and his team.

What a spirited quote from Peter Cooper - inventor and philanthropist who founded the for the Advancement of Science and Art in Manhattan, New York City - whose birthday it would have been today.

The lettering is by a 1930s student Peter Paul Piech and also shows Cooper’s characterful signature - which would be the envy of many a modern calligrapher.

Interesting to imagine whether Cooper would approve of how design and engineering is taught and carried out today, and whether his ideals have been carried out by the institution he founded.

is a Community Interest Company that works on printmaking projects in Shetland. They work on art projects that promote equality, and so far have worked with Disability Shetland, gender equality groups, Grays School of Art, Autism Friendly Shetland, befriending schemes, Bridges, with professional and local artists and one to one with people with complex needs. They believe that anybody can be an artist and everyone deserves to have their voice heard.

They’ve brought printmaking to windswept Shetland and are currently fundraising to add to the collection of resources they can share with the local community - including selling some of co-founder original drawings pictured here.

One of our long time favourite archives is at Thomas Jefferson University, that documents objects from fashion and textiles. We love the slices of fabric pasted to the archive cards, and this design in particular [Oval and branch print on cotton. Unknown manufacturer. January 16, 1881] reminded us of the much more contemporary work of , who works ‘between the poles of analogism and digitalism’.⠀

Fascinating to see an almost glitchy pattern appear on textile from almost 140 years ago.⠀

We’ve spotted this Roman inspired type a few times recently, and are interested in seeing the different contexts to the Trayjan capital letters.⠀
From a bold book cover on Emma Southon’s Agrippina biography, to a softer application captured in a touching dedication in the gardens at Charleston last summer, and a carved signpost on the Devon coast – the latter two highlighting the formal lapidary [stone carved] origins of the letter forms.⠀

Female oriented co-working space American Theatre Wing has added a ‘Little Wing’ arm to one of their NY hubs, which is a great visual extension of their adult brand – employing the same sophisticated-yet-sugary tones alongside more playful supergraphics and an urbane collection of toys.⠀

A charming facility that’s offered to the working members of The Wing with engaging activities and hosts, the space also highlights the issue of often under provided access to childcare in many workplaces.⠀

We're really looking forward to their space opening in London soon.⠀

Obfuscation and Layering⠀
Another collection of our photography documents moments of intrigue, a sense of glimpsing through, and depth – visual mechanisms that could apply to photography treatments or set design for example.⠀

Weight and Series⠀
Whilst delving into our Evernote archive we spotted a collection that brought together different lines, weights and scales in series.⠀

How satisfying to see these forms repeat and stretch. It got us thinking about the language of same-but-different comparison, of iteration, and of visualising a sense of time and space, growth or evolution.⠀

have been releasing fascinating insights into British visual culture through their series of Irregulars. The collection of books document pockets of creativity beyond galleries and museums – from UFO drawings in the National Archives to Face in the Crowd competitions in football programmes.

These lovely volumes are exquisitely designed, and offer unexpected glimpses into the facets of image making from 1945 to now, and are a timely celebration and alternative look of some of the forgotten parts of our culture.

From South American traditions to innovations in industry...
Such a treat to see Anni Albers’ research and process, that allowed her to continue to innovate and refine her relationship with her process.
