When ÂŁ10M isn't even the best result.

“The true value of the work lies in the culture shift that’s percolating in the background""

When we work on innovation projects with our clients, we collaborate in the work guiding our clients' teams to solve the problem and develop solutions together. This means that not only do they get to a solution, but there’s a real sense of ownership of it.

It’s also frequently the start of the revelatory journey our clients embark on, to realise the huge value that new ways of working - experimentation, test and learn, working with agility - can bring.

And that’s a much bigger win.

Retrospectives. An important tool for examining where you’ve been and what you’ve done. Ideally, they should provide a perfect opportunity to learn too–not just from what didn’t go so well, but also what did. Far too often, we only spend time examining the failures, not the successes.

The ability to quickly incorporate lessons learned from your successes and failures into future experiences is one of the most important skills in the workplace of the future.

Why is experimentation important?

Experimentation is a brilliant shortcut to innovation. It’s a practical approach that helps us to start small, and learn as we go. Plus, it can help circumvent the politics and big discussions that often kill small ideas. In the latest in our ‘Good Questions’ series, find out how experiments help us arrive at better questions, and the right questions to ask at the right time.

How do you make the most out of a workshop?

Workshops have become a standard part of modern working life, but a poorly planned workshop can be costly for so many reasons, not least if you don’t get to the outputs that you actually want to get to.

Here are five questions to think about as you’re planning your workshop to make sure you get the outputs you need.

Picture this. You’ve been working on your project for months and months and you’re finally presenting to a team of stakeholders to get alignment on direction, strategy, tactics, and so on. Broadly, you’ve got an agreement in the room. Great! Job done? …Not so much.

Keeping the momentum going is an ongoing task, and one of the ways to hlpe you keep moving forwards is by asking good questions about actions, barriers, accountability, responsibility, and measurement

Asking good questions, and often, can help you find value, keep things moving, gain alignment, and so much more. Good questions create clarity, challenge assumptions, and allow teams to test the boundaries of a piece of work.

What's the difference between potential and actual?
That's the question we helped our client find the answer to.

They owned a piece of tech, which had a lot of possibiliies for alternate uses, but whatever they selected would mean missing out on other opportunities. It was giving them bad FOMO, and left them unable to make a decision.

This constant circling around the issue it meant they weren't making any progress, or realising ANY potential at all.

We’ve helped them bring ideas to life in a real and commercial way, and they are now able to move forwards, towards an actual solution.

We broke our client out of an endless cycle of ‘what ifs’ to translate the real customer value of a piece of technology, and narrow down the seemingly endless use-case possibilities so they can move forwards and realise the potential of their tech in new industries.

"When a leader, even a mid-level or lower level leader, skillfully brings a voice and a vision, others will follow and surprising things can happen—even culture change on a large scale."

Innovation in organisations is generally a team sport, but it does need individuals to voice their opinions, with sustained focus and determination, to move the needle.

Just like Greta Thunberg's assertion that no one is too small to make a difference, so "A single person with a clarity of conscience and a willingness to speak up can make a difference."
