🚀 Casing 101 — Episode 4: Market Entry Framework

After mastering profitability, the next big question consultants often face is:

Should we enter this market, and if so, how?

Market entry cases test your ability to balance strategy, realism, and numbers. It’s not just about spotting a big market, it’s about assessing whether the opportunity is attractive, whether the company can actually win, and whether the economics make sense.

In this episode, we break down the Market Entry Framework:

• The three core pillars: Market Attractiveness, Company Capabilities, and Economics
• How to pressure-test each pillar using practical spectrums
• A real-style case example with a clear recommendation

Why it matters:
Market entry cases appear frequently at MBB and Big 4, and strong candidates show structured judgment—not memorised checklists.

Frameworks aren’t about rigid templates. They’re tools to organise thinking, ask sharper questions, and move toward better decisions.

Stay tuned as we continue the Casing 101 series with more essential frameworks and case examples.

🚀 The CCN Brief — Issue 5: Value Chain Analysis

Where exactly is value created inside a company, and where is it quietly leaking away?

Value Chain Analysis is a core consulting framework used to break a business down into its individual activities, helping teams pinpoint cost drivers, inefficiencies, and sources of true competitive advantage.

After a short winter break, we’re back with the next issue of The CCN Brief. In this fifth issue, we cover:
• What Value Chain Analysis is and why consultants use it
• The difference between primary and support activities
• How to spot margin leakage and prioritise the right fixes
• A detailed example from a UK food manufacturer

Whether you’re preparing for consulting interviews or sharpening your strategic thinking, understanding how value is created across a business is essential—and this framework is foundational.

📅 *Stay tuned: our Spring Cycle consulting applications open in February.*

🚀 Casing 101 — Episode 3: Profitability Framework

Welcome to our first official case framework breakdown!

In consulting, a framework is simply a structured way of thinking: a repeatable lens used to turn messy business problems into clear drivers and solutions. Instead of guessing why profits fell, you diagnose them in a MECE method.

This week, we deep dive into the most fundamental interview framework: Profitability.

In this episode, we cover:
• Profit = Revenue – Cost (and how to break each down Measurably + MECE)
• How to separate price vs volume on the revenue side
• How to analyse fixed vs variable costs properly
• Frequent causes interviewers expect you to know (inflation, mix shift, mark-downs, etc.)

Why it matters:
Profitability cases are the #1 most common prompt at MBB and Big 4 — mastering them gives you a reusable structure for market shifts, declining sales and cost turnarounds.

Frameworks shouldn’t make casing formulaic — they should make thinking clear, and using them well will significantly boost your chances of passing to the next round. Stay tuned for more common frameworks such as market entry, M&A and more!

🌐 CCN London — Autumn Cycle Mid-Cycle Recap

Halfway through the Autumn Cycle, our consultant teams have been pushing forward across industries — from climate tech and AI to financial wellbeing, fashion, and community development.

To support their work and help our members grow, we hosted a 2-hour Speaker Session with an ex-McKinsey consultant, who shared a transparent, inside look at the full journey from zero offers → MBB.

Across the session, we covered:

✨ How to stand out at every stage of the application
✨ What MBB really looks for in CVs, cover letters, and interview performance
✨ Common failure modes candidates don’t realise they’re making
✨ The exact frameworks and habits used by top-tier candidates
✨ The best resources for preparation — including platforms like PrepPartner (https://www.preppartner.ai/)

Alongside this, each of our consulting teams shared mid-cycle updates on their client work — from defining problem statements to building out research, market analysis, and early strategic recommendations.

Thank you to everyone who joined us live, asked questions, and made the session so engaging.
More speaker events, workshops, and cycle updates coming soon — stay tuned.

🚀 The CCN Brief — Issue 4: Porter’s Five Forces

Why do some industries generate massive profits while others struggle with razor-thin margins — even when the companies inside them are well-run?

Porter’s Five Forces is one of the most fundamental strategy tools used by consultants to decode industry competitiveness. It helps teams understand where value is created (or destroyed) long before jumping into a market entry, investment, or turnaround strategy.

In this fourth issue of The CCN Brief, we cover:
• The 5 Forces that shape any industry’s profit potential
• How each force actually works in real business contexts
• Examples across airlines, chips, retail, ride-hailing and more

Whether you’re preparing for consulting recruitment or building your strategy toolkit, mastering industry analysis is essential — and this framework sits right at the core.

🔎 Casing 101 — Episode 2: Clarifying Questions

The biggest mistake candidates make in case interviews?
Jumping straight into a framework without fully understanding the problem.

Clarifying questions are what separate strong candidates from average ones — they turn a vague prompt into a precise, solvable business question.

In this episode of Casing 101, we cover:
• What clarifying questions actually do (and why MBB interviewers look for them)
• The 4 categories every candidate should clarify
• Real example prompts + the exact questions top candidates ask
• How clarification sets you up for a sharper, more relevant structure

Over the next few weeks, we’ll continue breaking down the entire casing process step-by-step, including:
✅ Frameworks used in real cases (issue trees, profitability, market entry)
✅ How to run fast maths under pressure
✅ Structuring techniques used by actual consultants
✅ Example cases with guided walkthroughs

Master clarifying questions early — it’s the foundation of every great case performance.

🚀 The CCN Brief — Issue 3: Building Issue Trees

How do consultants turn a single question into a structured, solvable problem?

Issue Trees are one of the most powerful tools in consulting — they take an ambiguous challenge and break it into clear, MECE sub-questions, helping teams identify root causes or evaluate strategic options.

In this third issue of The CCN Brief, we cover:
• What Issue Trees are and why they’re used in consulting & case interviews
• The two main types: Diagnostic Trees (find the “why”) and Decision Trees (choose the “what next”)
• A step-by-step method for building both

Whether you’re preparing for consulting interviews or want to sharpen structured problem-solving, mastering Issue Trees is a core skill.

Follow us for weekly insights into strategy, casing, and real-world consulting fundamentals.

🎯 Casing 101 — Episode 1: What is a Case Interview?

If you’re aiming for MBB, Big 4, or Tier-2 consulting, the case interview is the single most important part of the recruitment process — and yet, most students only start preparing after they get an interview.

This new series breaks down case interviews the same way consultants break down business problems: clearly, logically, and step-by-step.

In this post, we cover:
• What a case interview actually is (and why firms use it)
• What interviewers are really testing beyond the answer
• The four stages every case follows — from prompt → recommendation
• The 3 most common case types (with real examples to come)

Over the next few weeks, we’ll go deeper into:
✅ Frameworks (MECE, issue trees, profitability breakdowns, etc.)
✅ Market sizing shortcuts & maths under pressure
✅ How to structure answers the way consultants think
✅ Full example cases + live walkthroughs

Whether you’re applying this term or next year, start early and learn the process properly — not through last-minute memorisation.

Follow along for weekly drops, our next CCN Brief and Casing 101 posts will be up soon!
