Mongolian Cashmere: Why so special?

Cashmere supply is limited. All goats produce it, but in most places it’s not good enough to process. In Mongolia, cashmere fibers are especially long and fine, and make good-quality yarn and thread. The harsh climate(-40 celsius to +40 celsius) must make a difference. In Australia, attempts to produce cashmere with Mongolian goats failed. Mild weather and good nutrition somehow led to coarser cashmere.

Goats that yield cashmere down usually live at altitude. The goats’ cashmere is different depending on weather condition in the country where they live and graze.

On average 250 grams of cashmere can be combed from one goat. 9-10 meter of fibre is spun with 1 gram of pure cashmere. About 40-45 percent of the whole cashmere in world is produced in Mongolia.

Cashmere thread diameter of Mongolian goat is 13.0-16.5 microns; average length is 38-45 mm. Cashmere from Mongolian goats is warmer than other countries’ cashmere because of Mongolia’s weather.

Cashmere products are very light, soft and delicate. It is special and its qualities ensure that it is warm and keeps its shape.

Reasons to wear CASHMERE:

1. Cashmere comes in a wide range of colours
As a versatile, and classic fabric, we think it’s really important that you can buy a cashmere accessory in the colour you actually want it in. We offer our scarves and ponchos in a range of different colours so that you can get the look that you want.

2. It’s a natural fabric
Our cashmere is from Mongolia where is land of cashmere. We don’t use lots of harmful chemicals in the processing either, so you can rest assured that your scarf is definitely not having a negative impact at its source. Another bonus of cashmere being a natural fabric is that it’s breathable and lightweight, whilst still being warm. Cashmere traps air in between its fibres, which is why it’s so toasty.

3. Cashmere is extremely soft
One of the key benefits of cashmere above other wool products is its softness and quality. When you buy a cashmere product, you’re investing in your own comfort as well as style, especially as a scarf is in contact with your skin all day. Cashmere doesn’t itch or cause irritation, unlike some other wools.

4. It won’t just last one winter
We’ve all been there and bought a cheap jumper, or something that’s really trendy but will probably be relegated to the back of the wardrobe by the time next season rolls around. This isn’t the case with cashmere at all. With the right care, this stylish, elegant and timeless fabric stays looking as good as new for a really long time. You want something as classic as a pashmina scarf to stand the test of time, so that you can be sure it has lasting quality.

5. Not too heavy or too light
Perfect for winters in the UK where one day, it’s sunny and crisp, but the next day it’s windy and wet, cashmere’s a fantastically versatile fabric that suits a range of different weather conditions. It also won’t make you overheat, like some cheaper wool alternatives do.

6. It can be worn anywhere
Whether you’re dressed up and need a little something to take the chill off, or you’re just heading out shopping or running around after the kids, it’s really easy to dress cashmere up or down. It looks as elegant paired with jeans as it does with an evening dress.

#7 Facts you probably didn't know about CASHMERE

1. SPECIFIC PROCESS OF PRODUCTION – cashmere wool is obtained with combing of the lower hair (the lower layer of hair) from special goats that provide cashmere wool.

2. CASHMERE can only be collected in spring, the season of molting.

3. It takes between 3-5 GOATS to knit up ONE average sized sweater.

4. SOCKS were the FIRST CASHMERE product. Ali Hamadani, a Persian sufi, gifted a pair to the king of Kashmir in the 14th century.

5. Its FIBERS provide excellent insulation. In fact, it’s said that CASHMERE is 3 times more insulating than SHEEP’s wool.

6. The fibers are 6 times finer than HUMAN hair, but the fabric is dense, keeping people warm in extreme weathers.

7. CASHMERE doesn’t stretch or fade. If taken care of properly, it’ll retain its shape for a lifetime.
