It's time to take control!

Keeping track of files and projects can be tricky at the best of times, but trying to do it when your time is split between home and office working, it gets even trickier!
Fear not - we have some top tips for you to help you take control of your work, to get your files and documents organised so that you can get to them quickly and efficiently.

DON'T NEED IT? SHRED IT!
Be strict about the paperwork that you keep. If it's not needed get it shredded. You'll feel happier that you've removed any chance of identity fraud, and also you'll have less clutter in your box files!

LABEL YOUR FILE BOXES OR FILING CABINETS
If you are archiving old paper work in boxes or simply filing into cabinet drawers, make sure they are clearly labelled so you (and others) know what's inside them.

Empty that inbox!

A major cause of stress and anxiety for any worker is the constant checking of emails, or more specifically NOT checking them and worrying about them in the meantime.

Read our Super Six tips below to see how simple it can be to take control of that inbox - leaving you the mental freedom to concentrate on your work - or play!

1: GET A FLYING START
Give yourself 30 minutes at the start of the day to get your inbox in order. This is where you flag important emails, respond to urgent customer requests and delete as much as you can.

2: TURN IT OFF
Yep, that’s right. Turn it off until you are ready to deal with them and when you are, deal with all the emails in one batch.

3: DON'T SKIM
Research shows that many people skim read all their emails first, and then go back through them and decide what to do with them, which is like doing the job twice.

4: DELETE
Many people are scared to hit the delete button, but trust us, once you get used to it, it can be quite liberating!

5: FLAG IT
Flagging important emails that you need to respond to is a great way to get a visual of what needs doing, and puts you in charge of your inbox, not the other way around.

6: FOLDERS
We found that a lot of our emails were just for information that we might need at a later date. Create folders for these so you can refer back to them when you need to.

Ready for anything? Are you sure?!

September is a slightly odd time for many of us - it's the end of the Summer, it's the start of the new academic year, and this year it will also be the end of furlough and the return of some kind of normality in the workplace.

The pandemic has been horrible for every one of us, but it could be worse. Spare a thought for the millions who are currently affected by cancer, and be thankful that even Covid can't stop the annual Macmillan coffee morning!
