On this day 10 years ago... facebook kindly reminded me of this photo of my and my Nan at my graduation.
That's a whole decade since I graduated with my law degree.
I still remember the nerves that morning:
Wondering what to wear
Worrying I'd trip up on the red carpet as the ceremony was being filmed
Hoping they'd pronounce my name correctly (they did!)
But what I remember more than anything is how proud my Nan was of me that morning. Sadly, she's no longer here, except in spirit, but I know she would even be prouder of where life has taken me now.
The last 10 years have been a whirlwind.
Truthfully? I never planned to do anything further with my legal training.
The BPTC and LPC were options, real ones, but they didn't feel right.
They didn't make me happy.
So I stayed true to myself.
And yet...
Situation after situation, the law kept finding its way back to me.
I now offer paralegal support as part of a service of my virtual assistant business because, somehow, it just feels like it was always meant to be.
My legal background shows up every day in the work that I do, for example thinking critically when supporting policy reviews or compliance and drafting or proofreading service agreements and NDAs.
And more than anything?
It has taught me how to listen, question and advocate - three strong qualities that make a VA truly invaluable.
It's wild how fast time flies.
10 years ago, I was a fresh graduate standing nervously in this cathedral.
These days, I am now the one behind the scenes running a business built on insight and a no-nonsense knack for getting things done.
So if you've managed to make it this far and read on, and you're walking a path that doesn't look or feel 'traditional', trust me. It's not a waste.
You're not falling behind.
You're gathering your tools.
You're building momentum.
Your time will come because remember careers bloom in their own time and not on somebody else's schedule.
