Fraudsters set up fake websites or holiday adverts hoping to steal your money and in many cases, holidaymakers turn up to find their accommodation doesn’t actually exist.

What can you do?

- Avoid paying using a transfer service to pay for a holiday, as this is very likely to be a scam. Legitimate websites won’t ask you to use third party transfers.

- If you’re paying a deposit, use a credit card. This gives you the best chance at protection against a fraudulent holiday booking.

- Before you book, check online for other reviews that don’t appear on the website, and that legitimate contact details for the property’s owner or company are available.

- Take a moment – if a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
