Manchester Airport railway station is set for a ยฃ115 million upgrade to improve rail capacity and reliability.
Construction company Kier has secured a ยฃ54 million contract to deliver major infrastructure works, including extending platforms 1, 2 and 3, upgrading tracks and modernising signalling systems.
The improvements are expected to be completed by mid-2028, helping accommodate longer trains and improve connections for passengers travelling to and from one of the UKโ€™s busiest airports.

A new cultural hub celebrating African and Black cinema has opened in south London.
EbonyLife Place London, founded by Mo Abudu, features a 160 seat cinema showcasing Nollywood and wider Black and African storytelling.
The venue will also host industry discussions, masterclasses and live performances, with a restaurant and other cultural spaces bringing film, food, art and creativity together.

The opening took place during Black History Month, creating a new platform for filmmakers and audiences to celebrate stories from across the global Black diaspora.

Boots, the well known UK pharmacy and health-and-beauty retailer, has agreed to a ยฃ6.7 billion sale to the Canadian Weston familyโ€™s Wittington Investments, alongside Fairfax Financial.
The deal includes Bootsโ€™ UK and Irish retail operations, Boots Opticians, the No7 Beauty Company and its Thai and franchised businesses.
The new owners have indicated plans for further investment and store improvements.
Completion is expected in early 2027, subject to regulatory approval.

Londonโ€™s Oxford Street is set to become traffic free from 26 October, bringing changes to several bus services.
Day routes 7 and 94: will be shortened, with buses terminating near Marble Arch instead of continuing to Oxford Circus or Piccadilly Circus.
Day routes 98, 139 and 390: will be diverted onto surrounding roads, including Wigmore Street and Henrietta Place.
Night routes N7, N98, N113, N137 and N207: will also be diverted or shortened.
New bus stops will serve nearby streets, and some passengers may need to change buses or walk further to reach their stops.
TfL advises passengers to check their journeys before travelling.
