Improving your home doesn’t always mean having to extend it.

At this North London townhouse, the main objective for the clients was to make the cramped lower ground floor kitchen into a more open and inviting space.

The back wall was replaced with five metres of sliding glass, the ceiling was raised, a large picture window was added AND the orientation of the staircase was slightly changed to create better flow between the ground and lower ground floors. Simple 😉.

The result is a much lighter and open space and one which is more compatible with modern family life.

A 1960s home needed a major transformation to to give it a greater connection with its stunning setting on the Jurassic coast BUT it also had to preserve the owners’ privacy from the nearby public coastal footpath.

And with such an exposed location, our aluminium glazing needed to do more than simply frame those incredible views. Exceptional weather performance was just as important as the aesthetics.

Amongst a generous glazing package, including multiple sets of sliding doors and windows - our favourite glazing feature is that fabulous round window 😍. Nearly two metres in diameter it not only makes a bold design statement but also gives playful nod to the home’s seaside setting.

It’s not hard to see why this spectacular transformation of a 1960s home made the front cover of Grand Designs magazine 🙌.

The brief was to create a home that made the most of its coastal setting, to connect the owners with the surrounding landscape without compromising their privacy from the nearby coastal footpath.

And with such an exposed location, our glazing needed to do more than simply frame those incredible views. Exceptional weather performance was just as important as the aesthetics.

Beautiful design, innoative glazing solutions and a rather spectacular result - a project we can all be proud of ☺️.

Because planning this early is ALWAYS a good idea 🙌.

The most successful renovation projects tend to be the ones which have been agonised over for a while 😉.

Giving yourself plenty of time to research, plan and make the right decisions can make all the difference - certainly when it comes to the glazing.

Start by thinking about your priorities. Do you want to open the space up almost entirely to the garden? Hello bifolds 👋.

Is an uninterrupted view more important when the doors are closed? Hello slimline sliding doors 👋.

Or, if space is tighter and furniture placement needs to be considered, perhaps a combination of French doors and a large picture window is the right solution 🤔.

There’s no single ‘right’ answer, it’s about finding the glazing that works best for your home, your space and the way you want to live in it. Speaking to experts like us is a good start 😉.

So if an extension is on your 2027 wish list, there is no time like the present to start planning.

This video was filmed by one of our installation teams (thanks Dino!) last week in Finchley, North London. A L-shaped extension was added to the rear of a period home to accommodate a large open plan kitchen with an office to the side. Our slim-framed sliding doors and two large fixed windows were specified.

Is this the most exciting delivery of the renovation so far? 🤔

We might be biased, but getting the glazing delivered and installed is a pretty important milestone 😊.

Suddenly, you can really start to see the space in all its glory (glazing will do that 😉) - and, even better, it usually means the fun bits aren’t too far behind.

The lighting, the kitchen, the joinery, the decorating… all those details you’ve spent months choosing are finally about to come together 🙌.

So, renovators — what’s been the most exciting delivery to YOUR project so far? Tell us in the comments 👇

And don’t forget to SAVE this post if bespoke aluminium glazing is on the list for your next project 🙏.

A cottage in Guildford is about to look very different… 👀

The original cottage may not have had the proportions for the large, open-plan kitchen the owners had their hearts set on, but luckily, it sits on a generous plot with plenty of room to extend.

And what an extension it’s becoming 🙌.

Three sets of our slimline aluminium sliding doors wrap around two sides of the new kitchen, opening it up to the garden and bringing in an incredible amount of natural light.

Even at installation stage, you can already get a feel for how inviting this space is going to be and we cannot wait to see it finished.

SAVE this one if you are planning to extend your kitchen at some point soon ☺️.

Who knew that last week’s video of a glass link installation would bring so many new faces our way! 👋

So, with lots of new followers here, it feels like a good time for a quick reintroduction…

We’ve been aluminium glazing specialists since 2008, with showrooms in Poole and Chiswick and our own factory down in Poole.

We work closely with architects, housebuilders and renovators to bring the glazing element of their projects to life. And for us, that means so much more than simply supplying doors and windows 😊.

We take a collaborative approach to glazing design - advising on the best solutions, suggesting alternatives where they might better suit the brief or budget, and helping to resolve the more technically challenging details along the way.

We’ve recently revamped our website, with lots more project photography and information to help inspire ideas and hopefully make those all-important design decisions a little easier 🙏.

But the best way to get to know us and our glazing is to come and see it for yourself. Visit one of our showrooms, have a chat with one of our friendly team and slide some very large doors around. 🙌

If you have a glazing question to ask right now, drop us a 👋 in the comments and SAVE this post if aluminium glazing is going to feature in your next project. 🙏

There’s attention to detail… and then there’s your client dunking his head into the natural swimming pool just before the photoshoot to fix one loose tile. True story 😉.

When you’ve spent so long conceiving and creating a home of this standard, I suppose ‘good enough’ doesn’t quite cut it.

Throughout this pavilion-style property, the client only specified the highest quality finishes.

From the golden-coloured fibreglass cladding on the horizontal steels, to the Welsh slate for the stonework, through to the expansive walls of slim-framed aluminium glazing, every detail has been thoughtfully considered.

So, would you have left the tile… or got in? 👀

Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to save this reel if you need inspiration for your renovation or new build project 🙏.

The busy summer months meant that we have not made nearly enough of a splash about the new arrivals to our showrooms and product portfolio.

With lots of renovators opting NOT to go for a fully open-plan home design, internal glazed doors mean that there is no need to compromise on natural light if you want to close off part of the space - maybe for a study, a pantry, boot room or even a gym.

Our range of internal glazed doors now includes fire rated steel doors, which come in double or single door configurations, with the option of side lights and top lights to really maximise the amount of natural light coming into your living areas.

Our internal door ranges accommodate options of sliding, French or double doors, frosted, clear or reeded glass, so the hard part will be narrowing down your choice.

Comment INTERNAL for the link to these product pages and don’t forget to SAVE this post if you like the idea of internal glazed doors 🙏.

When these clients first came to us, their renovation had taken an incredibly stressful turn and they were understandably nervous about dealing with another glazing supplier.

As the review demonstrates, each of our teams played an important part in restoring the client’s faith in our industry and ultimately they have been left with beautiful glazing in their home. Mission accomplished ☺️.

A huge thank you to our lovely clients for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review — and to the whole ODC team who made it happen. 🙌
