I'm working on something new!

I'm putting together a white paper exploring the realities of running a business with a co-founder.

The good parts, the challenges and the things people wish they'd known earlier.

And I'd love to hear from people who've experienced it themselves.

If you're a co-founder and would be happy to contribute to my research, send me a message.

Is it really a partnership if one person makes all the decisions?

Co-founders don't need identical roles, but they do need clarity around how decisions are made.

Swipe for a practical exercise to help you review how you're working together.

Does every decision in your business eventually come back to you?

Next time someone asks:

“What do you think I should do?”

Try responding with:

What would you do if I wasn’t here?

It’s a simple change, but it encourages people to think through problems, build confidence and develop their own judgement rather than automatically looking to you for the answer.

If you’re working towards building a business that can operate without everything depending on you, my free guide, 10 Essentials Every Business Needs for Sustainable Growth, explores some of the areas worth focusing on.

Having a neutral person in the room can make difficult conversations feel much easier.

It creates space to be open, challenge each other constructively and find a clearer way forward.

That’s exactly what I aim to provide when working with businesses, so feedback like this means a lot.

If your business could benefit from some outside perspective, get in touch.

I hate seeing people being held accountable for a role that nobody has properly defined.

As businesses grow, roles change. But expectations don’t always change with them.

And if someone isn’t clear on what they own, what takes priority or what success looks like, how can you fairly assess their performance?

Unclear roles don’t just create confusion. They cost the business.

Swipe to see where the problems start.

A little post-networking-event reflection.

I always come away from these events glad that I made the time to go.

Running a business can keep you very firmly in your own world, and there’s something really valuable about getting out, meeting other business owners and having proper conversations.

For me, networking isn’t about speaking to as many people as possible.

It’s about good conversations, new perspectives and genuine relationships.

And this was a lovely reminder of exactly that.

Not every new client is necessarily good for your business.

Before saying yes, ask:

Is this good business, or just more business?

Something I see time and time again with business owners is taking work back because ‘it’s quicker to do it myself.’

And yes, it probably is quicker. Today.

But six months from now, you’ll still be doing it.

Delegating something properly might take longer the first time.

But constantly taking work back means your team never gets the opportunity to learn, and you never really let go of it.

Sometimes the slower option today is the one that gives you more time tomorrow.

There are things you can get away with when there are five people in a business that become much harder when there are 10, 15 or 20.

As the business grows, informal ways of working can start creating confusion.

It might not be a people problem.

You may have simply outgrown the way you work.

Swipe through for some of the signs to look out for.

When you're busy running a business, it's easy to miss what's happening elsewhere.

I often ask clients to think of their business like a house.

Strategy. Finance. Sales and marketing. Operations. Your team.

All of these areas need to work together.

My role as a business coach is to help you step back, look at the whole picture and spot anything you might be missing.

My free guide explores these different areas and will help you take a closer look at your own business.
