People often ask me how I manage four kids and two businesses.
Firstly, remember, you only see a snippet of everyone’s life on here. I have great days, bad days, great moments, high stress moments. I want to be genuine on here. I’ll tell you when it’s been a doozy of a day or a week, or great, but honestly, I don’t have time to play it all out on here - I’ve got four kids and two businesses to run 🤣.
Anyway - I thought it might be worth sharing something I do do - perhaps you do this too?
I take time to reflect on our pressure points.
Those moments in the day that bring stress or always feel stressful and I change something. We’ll work out how we can do it different, better, how can we take the stress out.
As an example (and I’ve got loads of examples!), for me, one of the biggest pressure points used to be last-minute requests in the morning from my teenagers.
“Mum I need socks.”
“Where’s my PE kit?”
“Have you washed my jumper?”
And it would instantly trigger stress. Especially as I’m trying to get little ones sorted out.
So instead of trying to become superhumanly organised (not happening, not realistic), I ask myself…
What could make this easier? What could we be doing differently so this isn’t a source of stress?
Our solution was simple.
Every evening we have a quick check-in:
“Do you have everything you need for tomorrow?”
Because the boys know that, in the morning, we are not available for last-minute emergencies.
We’re happy to help them - but the request has to happen the night before.
I love a simple exercise called Sustainers and Drainers - have you done something like this?
You write down what gives you energy in your day…and what drains you. Run through normal day and list things as a sustainer or drainer.
Then pick one drainer and ask:
What could make this easier?
Can I reframe this?
How can I support myself around this if it’s something I can’t change?
You don’t need to fix everything.
Just remove one pressure point at a time.
Is this helpful?
And Welldone if you got to the end of this reel 🤣
How do you do it? Tell me in the comments.
Lots of love
