Burnham is running out of ways to avoid giving it to us straight on tax
October cannot come quickly enough for the Prime Minister, as the political, Parliamentary, and party-management pressures on him are now so intense that the next fixed point in the political calendar, October, is the first realistic moment when stability, clarity, or relief might arrive.

Burnham commits to Starmer’s Brexit red lines
The Prime Minister has committed to honouring Sir Keir Starmer’s Brexit red lines, a major blow to hopes that he would find a route for Britain back into the European Union in some capacity. The economy is resilient when looked at through the lens of the war in Iran
The economy grew by 0.4% in Q2, official data has revealed, indicating that businesses and consumers have so far weathered the worst shocks of the war in Iran.

The growth figure from the Office for National Statistics was in line with analysts’ expectations but came alongside a surprise 0.3% boost in June.

Daily Market Brief: Economy to reverse gains as construction drags on growth

Britain's summer of modest economic optimism is colliding with silent building sites, as the construction sector, once again, fails to ‘pull its weight’. The sector has been shedding jobs for months. UK construction output fell 1.8% year-on-year in May, marking the seventh consecutive monthly decline.

Sterling Steady Near 3-Week High Ahead of UK Growth and Oil Supply Talks
Sterling held steady near multi-week peaks as markets await UK growth data and monitor mounting developments in the Middle East over the Strait of Hormuz, where tentative Iran-Oman talks could ease energy tensions and influence expectations for Bank of England policy.

Monthly growth figures are expected to show the economy remained resilient in June, with retail sales unexpectedly strong due to World Cup-related spending and continuing hot weather. However, more than 75% of the country was declared to be in drought yesterday. This will be a factor in the country’s food security for the rest of the year, and possibly into next year.
