Collaboration continues to be a key driver in improving service delivery across our client sites.

Over recent months, there has been a real focus on building consistency across the teams at 11 York Street and 40 Spring Gardens — from strengthening the onsite teams to creating a more aligned and customer-focused approach day to day.

Working closely with the client team, discussions around service standards and experience highlighted opportunities to further enhance the front-of-house offering. Through a collaborative approach, additional support and shared expertise were brought in to help develop the teams and build on the great progress already being made onsite.

This week saw the delivery of the RUK Service Excellence Programme in Manchester, bringing together colleagues from both locations for an engaging and insightful session. The team’s hospitality backgrounds, willingness to contribute ideas, and openness to learning created some fantastic conversations around how we continue to elevate the customer experience across both buildings.

It’s been a great example of how strong partnerships, shared goals, and investment in people can positively shape service delivery.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, led by the Mental Health Foundation. The 2026 theme is Action, and is all about recognising that small actions and everyday support can make a real difference to mental wellbeing.

At GUK, we know that looking after mental health is important all year round. Alongside mental health awareness training, our team also has access to an EAP phone line and other wellbeing support.

We are incredibly proud to share that Jon Guerriero, Security Manager at the Liberty Shopping Centre, has been awarded a Police Commendation for Bravery, along with a Certificate of Commendation from the Royal Humane Society.

These honours recognise Jon’s exceptional bravery, humanity, and dedication during a life-threatening incident in November 2024. His calm, decisive actions not only saved the life of an individual in crisis but also helped safeguard members of the public.

The awards were presented at a ceremony held at Chigwell Hall, where the police spoke about the profound impact of Jon’s actions.

Everyone at GUK is immensely proud, Jon truly went above and beyond, putting himself at risk to help others. Thank you, Jon. This recognition is richly deserved.

We were proud to join our client Cushman & Wakefield at the Radical Careers Fair Pilot last week, and it was a great careers event. We met so many interesting people who were full of potential and positivity.

Attendees came from a wide range of backgrounds, each having faced barriers to employment — from those rebuilding their lives in the UK after leaving countries such as Sudan and Gaza, to individuals with experience of homelessness, or long-term exclusion from work.

At GUK, we’re committed to creating pathways into employment that go beyond conversation and lead to real outcomes. This event created a space for candidates to demonstrate their true capability and explore real career opportunities.

A huge thank you to the team for delivering such a well-structured and purposeful event, and to everyone who took part. We’re excited to continue building partnerships that open doors and create lasting impact.

We’re proud to recognise Devin Desbonnes as our Employee of the Month for February, for going above and beyond while on duty.

While monitoring CCTV, Devin noticed an elderly man who had wandered onto site. Acting quickly, he approached the gentleman to carry out a welfare check and found him cold, disoriented, and in need of assistance. Devin helped him try to contact his family, and when no one responded, he immediately called emergency services.

Paramedics arrived promptly and ensured the gentleman received the medical attention he needed. Devin’s quick thinking, compassion, and professionalism made a real difference, helping to safeguard the individual’s wellbeing during a vulnerable moment.

We’re excited to share a recent opportunity to give back to our local community.There’s a talented local Under-7 boys football team made up of passionate 7-year-olds who train twice a week and play matches every weekend — sometimes even two matches in a single weekend!

We are really proud to have sponsored their away kit with t-shirts and jackets, supporting these young athletes while showing our commitment to the local community.

We are pleased to announce that our Employee of the Month for January 2026 is Michael Gillham.

Michael is being recognised for his proactive and vigilant approach in assisting the police in apprehending individuals responsible for a criminal act on site.

Although the barriers on site had been locked, a review of CCTV footage clearly shows that Michael remained actively monitoring the site from the security office. During this time, he observed three vehicles tailgating each other, immediately recognising that something did not look right.

Trusting his instincts, Michael continued to monitor and track the vehicles as they accessed the site from the main roundabout, crossed the landscaped area, and made their way towards the Smyths unit. His swift actions led to him contacting the police, who were on site within minutes and successfully apprehended one of the suspects.

Following discussions with Smyths, it appears that Michael’s quick thinking and decisive action resulted in no stock being lost. His vigilance, professionalism and commitment to protecting the site are truly commendable.

In recognition of his outstanding response, Michael has also been awarded the COO Exceptional Service Award by Peter Rees.

This type of proactive approach is something to be proud of and sets a clear example of what is expected, even after the site has been locked up. Michael’s actions reflect the highest standards of responsibility and dedication.

Our Employee of the Month for November was David Boamah. David has truly gone above and beyond at one of our newly mobilised sites. From day one, he stepped confidently into the role of Security Supervisor, providing steady leadership and reliable oversight.

He has built strong, genuine relationships with both the client and tenants, strengthening trust and communication across the site. Through his initiative and commitment, David has taken full ownership of the operation and set an exceptional standard of performance.

David has successfully managed and trained a brand-new team, ensuring every aspect of the site runs smoothly. He also helped set up the site from scratch, managed the fire panel, and even cleaned and organised the control room.

Thank you, David, for your dedication, professionalism, and hard work. You’re a true asset to the team!
