In 2026, Academy Award, Emmy, Grammy and Golden Globe-winning composer and cellist Hildur Gudnadóttir celebrates the 20th anniversary of her debut album Mount A with This Will Be Us, a deeply personal new orchestral recording revisiting the music that first established her distinctive artistic voice.

Recorded with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (DSO Berlin) under the direction of Robert Ames This Will Be Us presents newly reimagined orchestral versions of selected works from Mount A (2006), Without Sinking (2009) and Saman (2014), alongside two new compositions. Playing solo cello on all of the recordings, Guðnadóttir also meticulously produces each track, working with her long-time collaborator Donadello on the recording, mixing and mastering.

To coincide with the anniversary, Deutsche Grammophon will also be reissuing the three classic albums on vinyl (Mount A arrives on the format for the very first time) and staging a special launch event at the Berlin Philharmonie on October 25, 2026.

Born in Cuba and trained in Havana and Germany, Yudania is an award-winning artist whose recent highlights include conducting Rosalía’s LUX world tour with the Heritage Orchestra, alongside engagements with Chineke!, Mitteldeutsche Kammerphilharmonie and Stuttgart State Opera.

Recognised for his nuanced orchestral colours and rhythmic precision, Iselin’s repertoire strengths range from the French and Nordic repertoire through to late Romantic and contemporary, with a particular affinity for the works of Debussy, Ravel, Sibelius, Prokofiev and Stravinsky.

📣 From 8 – 17 May 2026, pianist Víkingur Ólafsson presents the new Lucerne Festival, 'Pulse', which he will curate for a period of three years. For the first edition entitled Time and Space, Víkingur Ólafsson has created a fascinating programme exploring connections from Johann Sebastian Bach to the present day, with artists including Thomas Adès, Elim Chan, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, MDR Radio Choir and Danish String Quartet. Víkingur will appear as soloist and in collaboration with the various ensembles.

After several seasons building a formidable repertoire as a member of the ensemble at Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, Williams-Ali has gone on to make debuts with Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera and the Metropolitan Opera, among others, and appears on an upcoming recording of Salome.

Paavo Järvi has been awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, one of Japan’s highest honours, conferred by the Cabinet Office of Japan as part of the Spring 2026 Imperial Decorations.

The decoration recognises Järvi’s outstanding contributions to music and his role in strengthening cultural ties between Japan and the international community. The conferral ceremony will take place in Estonia later this year, with further details to be announced in due course.

Last week's BBC Music Magazine Awards brought significant recognition to our artists. Timothy Ridout - Violist received the BBC Music Magazine Instrumental Award for his 2025 solo album on Harmonia Mundi, while Harry Christophers was named ​‘Personality of the Year’.

Further honours went to HarrisonParrott’s Taavi Oramo, alongside clarinettist Julian Bliss and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, who won the BBC Music Magazine Award in the Concerto category for their recording of Finnish clarinet concertos by Magnus Lindberg and Kalevi Aho.
