Thinking about doing a second Master's in New Zealand after completing one in the UK? Be aware โ this is one of the most common reasons student visa applications get rejected.
Immigration New Zealand assesses every student visa application against a "genuine student" requirement, and course progression is a key part of that. If your proposed study doesn't clearly build on your previous qualification โ for example, applying for another Master's at the same level, particularly in an unrelated field โ case officers can view this as a weak or non-genuine study plan, which increases the risk of refusal.
What can help: choosing a programme that shows a logical academic or career progression from your existing qualification, and preparing a clear, well-supported explanation of why this specific course and country fit your goals.
Germany is also worth considering as an alternative โ it doesn't carry the same course-progression scrutiny, many programmes are taught fully in English, and the country has strong demand for skilled graduates across sectors like IT, engineering and healthcare.
