“It’s ok to not be ok” - Mental health problems during pregnancy or in the first 12 months following the birth of a child affects up to 20% of women, and covers a wide range of conditions. If left untreated, it can have significant and long lasting effects on the woman and her family.
The figures are expected to be higher, however many women do not report their difficulties for fear of being stigmatised, being viewed as a bad mum, or being separated from your children. The truth is that motherhood can be a joyous occasion, but is also a huge asjustment that invites losses and transitions, that affects each individual differently; and “difficult” moments are much more common than most people think.
Help is available to support mums to look after maternal wellbeing.
