🏢 One trend we've noticed over the past 12 months...
More and more property investors are incorporating their portfolios into limited companies.
The reasons are clear.
✅ Tax planning, subject to professional advice.
🏛️ Protecting and preserving generational wealth.
📈 Building long term assets.
🚀 Creating a structure for future growth.
But here's what surprises me...
Many investors are comfortable taking on millions of pounds of debt, yet very few protect the debt that has enabled them to build their portfolio.
Recently, we spoke with a client who has over £15 million of borrowing across their portfolio.
When I asked why they wanted debt protection, their answer really stuck with me.
"If something happens to me, I don't know if my partner would want, or even be able, to manage this. Lending criteria change. Markets change. Selling quickly isn't always possible."
💭 That is exactly the point.
According to UK Finance, there are around 2 million buy to let mortgages outstanding across the UK. Behind every one of those mortgages is a person, a family or a business with financial responsibilities.
As brokers, accountants and solicitors, we spend so much time helping clients acquire assets.
❓But are we spending enough time helping them protect those assets?
For me, protecting a property portfolio isn't about expecting the worst.
🛡️ It is about ensuring your family has choices if life takes an unexpected turn.
A well structured protection plan can provide:
✅ Financial certainty
⏳ Time to make informed decisions
🏡 The ability to retain assets rather than being forced into a sale
So let me ask you...
❓If something happened to you tomorrow...
Would your family inherit a valuable property portfolio...
Or inherit the responsibility of managing millions of pounds of debt?
I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts.
💬 Should debt protection be a standard part of every leveraged property investor's strategy?
