Subterranean dealers: By the 1930s, the wealthy Victorian clientele of The London Silver Vaults had largely disappeared and were replaced by silver dealers, who used the vaults to store their stock. Walk the vaults today and you’ll see some are still owned by the same family

Safe as houses: Hidden beneath Chancery Lane, The London Silver Vaults started life as a Victorian private safe depository. The four-foot-thick brick walls lined with steel, iron doors and guards made this the perfect place for London’s wealthy to store valuables when they left the city
