"If we say sorry, aren't we admitting it was our fault?"
It's one of the most common worries we hear about the duty of candour, and CQC answers it directly: apologising is not an admission of liability.
In fact, the apology is a crucial part of the duty. When something qualifies as a notifiable safety incident, you must apologise for the harm caused, regardless of fault, and be open and transparent about what happened.
CQC also makes the point that it's often the lack of a timely apology that pushes people to take legal action.
