Kicking off September one of the busiest times of the year for looking for a new job! CV Workshop is back at Soho Works this time Shoreditch. Had a great session yesterday with participants from costume and design and fashion and luxury and advertising and innovation!

Key takeaways included: not being afraid to show off your experience and skills and achievements. By doing this you separate your CV from generic ones and add more individuality

Looking forward to the next one!

Summer is well and truly upon us. It's a time we would expect recruitment to slow down anyway; it's just part of the recruitment cycle. People start going on holiday and offices shift to more relaxed summer hours and flexitime schedules.

Of course, this summer is particularly quiet on the hiring front. Some companies are downsizing or even closing. Businesses are having recruitment freezes and recruitment strategies and budgets are being reviewed.

The silver lining is the availability of flexibility and remote working options. Many people are also expanding their skills and looking to re-train.

It's not been an easy time for anyone but looking ahead, we think September will bring with it more opportunity and stability within the job market.

Many companies are conducting interviews via video so it has never been more important to make sure your Zoom, Skype and FaceTime game is strong. Here are our top video call tips...

Where you are is really important. Base yourself somewhere that isn't cluttered and distracting. Make sure the light is right, so you don't appear to be a shadowy figure lurking in a darkened room. Your face needs to be really visible, so that the person, or people, you're talking to can see your expressions and get a sense of you. Don't choose somewhere that you may be interrupted or encounter unexpected noise.

Position your computer to a height that allows you to look straight at camera-level, rather than downwards. No one's best angle is seen from below! Find a stack of books and test out how you look before the call.

Check your internet connectivity. Its frustrating for everyone if there are delays, you can't be heard or sound like you're under water.

Wear what you would wear to the interview or meeting if it were in person. You might be at home and only visible from the waist up but you'll come across better and more confident if you're looking good and well put together.

And finally, remember to smile and make eye contact. You want to come across as personable as you can and show your personality.

Anxiety is at an all time high these days. From job security to the pandemic and the isolation that has come with it, we are stressed.

The idea of going back to work in the office has a lot of people feeling concerned.

Here are a few things you can do if you're anxious about a return after months of lockdown isolation.

Find out what new measures your company has in place.

Have a work buddy, or a good friend outside of work, that you can call and chat to if you want to talk anything through.

Plan a route to work that you will feel most comfortable taking. This might be different to the way in which you used to get in to work; maybe you're on the tube less and walking more, or you're cycling to avoid public transport entirely. Give yourself plenty of time to get from A to B.

Get together a commuting kit. This could include hand sanitising gel, mask, gloves etc. and that way you don't even have to think about it. Just throw the kit into your bag and know you've got the essentials.

Think about everything that makes you feel calm and call on those things when you need to - for example, a song, a book, meditating, speaking to a friend.

Discuss what options there are for cutting down the number of hours you are working from the office.

Have a chat to a doctor or medical practitioner.
