Great news during my holiday...

I never use letters after my name, but I’m proud to say when you use Lamont HR, you now get a Chartered Fellow (FCIPD)… the highest level of professional membership within the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (https://www.cipd.co.uk/), the professional body for HR professionals. It recognises a select group of senior HR professionals who can deliver sustained long-term business performance across organisations by leading and developing people strategies. What’s not to like!

A really important way to grow my business is through networking. So, I’ve been throwing myself into it, meeting some amazing people. I’ve even got a networking buddy for some events (you know who you are).

Networking can be daunting and I’ve experienced the positives where someone remembered me from way back and I won some business. I’ve been able to share contacts and make recommendations to help others build their business.

I’ve also experienced people who will only talk to me if there is something in it for them, which I found rude and short sighted.

For me, networking is about building what I hope are long term business relationships and having good conversations. There is enough work for anyone who is good at what they do.

Do new gender pay gap regulations apply to your business?

Gender pay gap information regulations are due to come into force today for the private sector & voluntary sector employing 250 or more people.

Employers will need to publish their first report by 4 April 2018, based on a ‘snapshot’ date of their pay gap on 5 April 2017 (yesterday), showing how large the pay gap is between their male and female employees.

But don't leave this until the last minute.. it will creep up quickly.

Today is ‘Send a Card to a Friend day’. Not the sort of post you would expect to see from an HR consultancy – but it got me thinking. This awareness day is about letting people know you are thinking about them and you care. But this is equally important at work.
