🧠 At BNI Dolphins, we were treated to something a little different from our feature presenter, Dr Simon from Victoria Road Medical Practice

Instead of a traditional presentation, Simon put together a fantastic interactive quiz that had the whole room engaged from start to finish. It brought plenty of laughs, a bit of competition, and showed just how valuable it can be to connect in a more relaxed and memorable way.

Alongside the quiz, Simon also shared more about the important work the practice does and the role community healthcare plays in supporting local people every day.

A proud milestone moment for BNI Dolphins last week as we edge closer to our one-year anniversary as a chapter! 🎉

We’re delighted to celebrate three member renewals, with each of them committing to another year of networking, collaboration, and supporting local businesses through BNI Dolphins.

👏 Alison Tarleton-Hodgson of Birchwood Physiotherapy renewed her membership this week. Alison was actually the very first member of the chapter a year ago, and continues to support people across Poole (and our chapter!) with expert physiotherapy services.

📞 Karl Girdler from Cosy Networks also renewed for another year. Karl helps businesses across Dorset and the South West with their business communication systems, helping companies stay connected and operate smoothly.

💡 Jon McHarg renewed his membership too. Jon is a highly experienced business consultant with over 30 years in business, as well as our Vice President. He’s been a huge driving force behind the chapter, constantly bringing new ideas, improving how we do things, and helping keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

Thank you all for your continued commitment to the chapter. We’re excited for what year two has in store! 🚀

At last week's BNI Dolphins networking meeting, Nicky Hornsby took on our 10 minute presentation to showcase The Centre Ferndown.

We asked Nicky a few questions about the work they do in the community;

🏡 What do you do, and who do you help?
The Centre Ferndown is a Community Centre and Family Hub providing support for the local community when they need it most. They support all family members, from midwifery through to dementia clients and their carers. The Centre also offers hall hire on both a one-off and regular basis.

🤝 Tell us about someone you've helped recently.
A young man came to see us who was living out of the back of his car through no fault of his own. He initially came in for food but had nowhere to cook. We supported him by providing hot water and instant ready meals, while also helping him access support for accommodation by putting him in touch with the right people and facilitating those meetings with him.

💬 What's a common issue people come to you with?
People come to us with a wide range of issues, including the threat of homelessness, drug and alcohol dependency, needing professional advice on different matters, as well as food and fuel pressures.

👤 What do you do, and who do you help?
I help people navigate the mortgage market, giving them confidence that they’ve secured the best option for them while making the process as stress free as it should be.

🛠️ Tell us about a recent project or client you've worked with.
I recently worked with a single mum who had been renting for years with zero confidence that she could own her own home. She didn’t realise her benefits income could be used to boost how much she could borrow. She can now raise her daughter in a safe and secure home of her own.

⚠️ What's a common problem your clients come to you with?
Self employed clients are often told they need to move as much company profit into salary and dividends as possible to secure a mortgage, which can lead to unnecessary income tax. There are lenders who will accept salary and net profit, potentially saving clients a significant amount in tax.

Great networking doesn’t stop when the meeting ends.

Last week, members of BNI Dolphins enjoyed a fantastic evening meal at The Pear at Parley, giving everyone the chance to relax, connect, and build even stronger relationships outside of the regular breakfast meeting.

A big thank you to Sarah Bennett Thurston, our Social Events Coordinator, for organising another brilliant get-together.

These social events are a great reminder that BNI is about more than business, it’s about building genuine connections, trust, and friendships that help members support one another and grow.

Thank you to The Pear at Parley for hosting us and providing a wonderful setting for the evening.

👤 What do you do, and who do you help?

I work with leadership teams in medium-sized businesses who are overwhelmed by the day-to-day noise. I help them cut through distractions, regain focus, and stay aligned on what really matters so they can execute and grow with purpose.

🛠️ Tell us about a recent project or client you've worked with.

I supported TMB Systems in scaling from £1B to £7B in just three and a half years by helping maintain focus, alignment, and momentum during a period of major growth.

⚠️ What's a common problem your clients come to you with?

Most medium-sized businesses don’t struggle with ambition, they struggle with focus. Meetings, emails, and daily demands pull leadership teams away from what actually drives growth, causing momentum to slow and big goals to drift further out of reach.
