Sunday, a day of rest… apparently! 🤣

Not quite in my house today.

After a busy week, I’ll be spending some time at my laptop catching up on all those little jobs that seem to pile up when you’re running your own business.

The glamorous side of being self-employed that nobody really talks about!

But there will definitely be coffee involved, and hopefully a little time to relax afterwards.

When I’m not working as a photographer, you might find me doing something completely different! 🎬

Today I’m swapping my camera for my chaperone hat!

It’s another side of my working life that you might not know about, and one I really enjoy.

Working with children in the entertainment industry has given me some wonderful experiences, and I love being part of what goes on behind the scenes.

Of course, no two days are ever quite the same!

So that’s a little glimpse into my Saturday.

“I’m terrible in front of the camera!”

If I had a pound for every time someone said that to me… 🤣

Here’s something I wish more business owners knew before booking a personal brand photoshoot.

You don’t need to know how to pose. That’s my job!

And here are three things that can make a huge difference.

📸 1. Stop trying to look like someone else.

You don’t need to copy the poses you’ve seen on Instagram or Pinterest. Your photographs should reflect YOU, your personality and your business.

📸 2. Keep moving.

Sometimes the most natural photographs happen when you’re walking, chatting, laughing or simply doing something with your hands. You don’t need to stand perfectly still and smile!

📸 3. Remember, it’s not an exam!

A photoshoot isn’t about getting everything right. It’s about enjoying the experience, feeling comfortable and creating images you’ll actually want to use.

After more than 30 years behind the camera, I’ve learnt that the best photographs often happen when people stop worrying about how they look and start relaxing.

And that’s exactly what I want for my clients.

So please don’t put off having your photographs taken because you think you’re not photogenic.

You might just surprise yourself! ❤️

How many times have you sat down to create a social media post and thought, “I haven’t got a photograph to go with it!” 🤦‍♀️

Sound familiar?

One thing I always encourage business owners to do is build a library of images they can use throughout their marketing.

And you can start with just three types of photographs.

📸 A photograph of YOU – because people connect with people.

📸 A photograph of you WORKING – let your audience see what goes on behind the scenes.

📸 The LITTLE DETAILS – your workspace, the tools you use or even that all-important morning coffee!

You don’t need to photograph everything in one day. Just start noticing those everyday moments that tell the story of your business.

Before you know it, you’ll have a lovely collection to draw from.

And yes, there’s absolutely a place for both phone photography and professional brand photography!

Here’s something I’ve learnt over the years…

Being the loudest person in the room doesn’t necessarily make you the best at what you do.

I’ve been in photography for over 30 years, and one thing I genuinely believe is that how you make people feel is just as important as the work you produce.

You can have all the fancy equipment, awards and confidence in the world, but if you can’t make someone feel comfortable, listened to and valued, what’s the point?

I’ve never been the loudest person in the room. In fact, I’m often quite the opposite!

But I care about the people I work with, their stories and making sure they enjoy the experience as much as the photographs themselves.

And that’s something I won’t compromise on.

What matters more to you when choosing someone to work with – their experience or how they make you feel? ❤️

A little reminder that confidence doesn’t always come first. 💛

Sometimes we wait until we feel ready, until everything is perfect or until we feel brave enough to put ourselves out there.

But what if we stopped waiting?

I’ve been a photographer for over 30 years, and even I have moments when I’d rather be behind the camera than in front of it!

I know how uncomfortable showing up can feel.

But I’ve also learnt that confidence grows when we start doing the things that make us a little nervous.

So whether it’s having your photograph taken, recording your first Reel or simply putting yourself out there in your business, give yourself permission to start.

You might just surprise yourself.

There’s more to me than being a photographer! 📸

If you’re new around here, hello! I’m Amanda.

I’ve spent over 30 years behind the camera, but there’s a whole other side to me that you don’t always see on here.

I’m a mum, a lover of 80s music, musical theatre, coffee and spending time with friends and family.

I can be a little quiet at first (yes, really! 🤣), but once you get to know me, that’s another story!

I’m taking part in a 30-day Reel Challenge, so you’ll be seeing a little more of me over the coming weeks, along with some photography tips, stories and hopefully a few laughs along the way.

What a week it’s been! 📸✨

This week has been all about getting myself visible for a change!

Updated headshots, meeting up with fellow photographers, swapping places in front of and behind the camera and enjoying some lovely conversations along the way.

As a photographer, I’m usually the one behind the lens, so it’s been rather nice to be on the other side!

I’m currently in the process of refreshing my brand photography business and planning some exciting changes for 2027, so the timing couldn’t have been better.

It’s also reminded me how important it is to practise what I preach when it comes to showing up and being visible in your business.

Lots of ideas, inspiration and plenty to think about as I head into another week.
