I was told today that I was brave to open a business with the economy as it is.

I don’t feel brave, I’m just working a job which I love. Yes there are some mornings when I want to stay at home and hide myself away like everyone does. But I knew I needed to give opening a shop my best shot and it was a ‘now or never’ moment. I’m 42y old and didn’t want to regret not trying. I wouldn’t ever regret trying.

I seem to say every weekend that I’m shocked with the support I receive but today you have blown all Friday figures out the water!

Singers' Night 27th September 2025

Join us for the first ever Singers' Night at Louth Jazz Club at 7:30pm on 27th September.

This exciting new venture will give local singers of jazz, blues and swing the opportunity to perform with some of our in-house musicians.

The evening will be hosted by Tom Miller, an accomplished big band, jazz and swing singer. Tom, who regularly performs with four big bands, recently relocated to Lincolnshire and has already attended a number of events at the Jazz club and wants to get even more involved.

We managed to persuade him to join the committee and help us launch this first open-mic style event.

Obviously we want you to come along and support this event and enjoy listening to a varied programme of jazz singing, but there is still room for people who want to perform.

If you have always fancied yourself as a bit of an Ella Fitzgerald or Frank Sinatra, this could be your opportunity to get out of the shower and into the spotlight!
If you have music, chord charts or lead sheets, great, but don’t panic if you don’t.
We have an extensive list of jazz and swing classics that our band can play for you ,or we might be able to direct you to sources such as iRealpro to help you in your preparation.
The most important thing is that you contact Tom Miller ([email protected]) and start the ball rolling.

Singers’ Nights like this are popular at a number of jazz venues and we hope that we can soon establish this as a popular, successful and regular feature at Louth Jazz Club.

Not a very exciting photo collage I hear you say. Well I have to agree but that's the point, and the thing about gliding, and probably lots of other sports, there's lots of not very exciting stuff to do behind the scenes. This is what keeps the club viable and still there for when members want to fly. At some clubs some people just turn up and fly, they miss out on all the boring stuff. Well you would wouldn't you? No, not at Strubby, because being a member of a club is being part of the team and everyone benefits if everyone does their fair share to the best of their ability.

And the photos: getting personalised mugs ready for use in the new clubhouse, (if you don't wash your mug we'll know who it is😂), stocking up with beverages, loading the trailer ready for the scrap run, getting access to the cables in readiness for testing the standby winch, cleaning the filing cabinet and seeing where to fix the display boards. The gliding bit is a lot more exciting😂; come and give it a go🙂.
