Vanessa's Story
A bit about myself ….
“I am an organised and dedicated administrator, with a good all round knowledge of office procedures. Effective communication and telephone skills”
That’s a quote from one of my old CV’s and it is a good starting point, however I also do a lot of voluntary work helping organise our Village Show, and Treasurer for two other village organisations so from thes
e I have the knowledge and confidence to organise a big event. Having previously being an active committee member of a works social club I organised and ran and to plan days out, theatre trips and weekends away which are all skills that I can bring to my new role as a Virtual Administrator. Why did I become a Virtual Assistant ...
There are many reasons why I made the decision to become a VA, after working for over 40 years for companies I wanted to have more control on my working week and to be able to spend more time with my husband as well as being able to continue with my voluntary work. As well as my knowledge of office procedures I also have excellent telephone skills. I enjoy researching so if I want to know the answer to something I am quite happy and confident to go on to the internet to get the answers I enjoy organising social events for friend and family. Other skills that I have brought to the work place …. My voluntary work has given me so many skills that can be taken over to the work place. Do you I think learning new skills is important …. It is very important to keep your skills up to date. I am currently completing an Accounts Course to update and refresh my knowledge and I am always looking for courses that will add to my skill set. Challenges I have encountered in my first 3 months…
Like all new ventures the first few months are a huge learning curve, so I think my biggest challenge has been to remain positive. What I have learnt so far and how it has helped …
My current clients have very different requirements so you quickly learn you must to be adaptable to the way they work also not to be afraid to tackle something even if it’s the first time you have had to do it. However, each of those clients are giving me additional knowledge to add to my skill set. My most inspirational moment …. A telephone call from another Virtual Assistant this week not only did she help me with so much advice and information just talking to her and knowing that my teething problems are just that although it will take time I will succeed. Did I make the right decision to become Self-employed …. Absolutely the right decision, and although the first few months have not been how I imagined them to be, I remain positive and that “This time next year I could be a millionaire” but I would be quite happy with being a successful Virtual Office Assistant
