During this age there are a lot of language related wake ups and physical growth; this can result in toddlers being up for a couple of hours at night.

What to look out for:
• Due to long night wakenings your toddler could be struggling on just one nap so don’t be afraid to add in a second.
• Sometimes at this age they can wake up due to needing more sleep pressure

Questions you may have – why has my toddler stopped sleeping all night? Why is my toddler now awake between 12:00 and 5:00 AM? How do I get my toddler to sleep to 7am?

I would call this age the eye of the storm, you will be stuck between 2 sleep regressions; so, catch up on your own sleep.

What to look out for:
• Your baby may still be waking up early… this is usually because of too much sleep, drop to one nap if you haven’t. if you find your little one can’t make it to bedtime cap a second nap at 15mins.

Questions you may have – Why has my 1yr old stopped sleeping well? How can I get my baby back to sleep until 7?

I know this can be a frustrating stage but remember that snuggling a baby won't ruin their sleep! If you want to you can certainly start working on good sleep habits!

At 16mo there can be a LONG sleep regression that can last a couple of weeks even if you are consistent.

What to look out for:
• Teething coupled with early wake ups
• A lot more babbling, this can result in them waking up in the middle of the night just to practice.
• Your baby will be pushing boundaries and trying to fight naps and sleep; but be patient and consistent.

Questions you may have - why is my 1yr old not sleeping? Why is my 16mo old up so early again? Can teeth disrupt sleep?

I can't think of a harder month than this for sleep. At this age there is lots of growth both physically (i.e. growth spurts) and developmental (i.e. language and other fine motor skills), and more teeth…teething and early wake ups, ring any bells?

What to look out for:
• you may notice your baby waking up a lot more or early wake ups. Trying to keep to your normal settling technique to put your baby back to sleep.
• Random wake up tends to be at their highest. Just remember to comfort them and be patient.
