π¨ WATER BEADS pose deadly danger to young children π¨
Are water beads in your home β or in a home your child visits?
Sometimes called sensory beads, jelly beads or gel beads, they may be used for sensory play, crafts and decorations. But they can be extremely dangerous if swallowed.
β Water beads can be tiny and easy for a young child to swallow without anyone noticing.
β Once swallowed, they absorb fluid within the body and can expand to many times their original size β some can grow as large as a golf ball.
β They can cause a life-threatening blockage in a childβs bowel and may require major surgery.
β Water beads may not show up on an X-ray, making them difficult to detect.
β οΈ Water beads are NOT recommended for children under 5. Keep them completely out of the reach of babies and young children.

Water beads are small and can easily be swallowed without detection. As they bathe in stomach fluids, they expand to many times their original size, posing a serious risk of blockage in a childβs bowel.
Some water beads grow to more than 15 times their original size, up to the size of golf balls.
The beads donβt show up on X-ray, so finding them can be really complicated and the child may need major surgery to remove them.
Thatβs why they arenβt recommended for under 5s.
