β˜€οΈ HOSEPIPE IN THE SUN? CHECK BEFORE YOU SPRAY!

Did you know water left sitting inside a hosepipe or water sprayer can become extremely hot in direct sunshine?

πŸ’¦That first spray could cause a serious burn to a child or animal πŸ”₯

βœ… Uncoil your hosepipe.
βœ… Empty any water left inside after use.
βœ… Store it safely away from young children.
❌ Never spray water that has been sitting in a hot hose directly onto a child or pet.

🚫And if a hosepipe ban applies in your area, remember to follow the current restrictions.

β˜€οΈ KEEP BABY COOL – BUT NEVER COVER THE PRAM!

It can be tempting to drape a muslin, blanket or towel over the pram to create shade – but this can reduce airflow and cause heat to build up around your baby.

❌ Never cover a pram or buggy with a blanket, towel or muslin - this leads to risk of overheating which increases the risk of SIDS.

βœ… Use a clip-on sunshade or parasol that allows air to circulate.
βœ… Keep baby out of direct sunlight.
βœ… Regularly check baby isn't getting too hot - feel back of neck or tummy
βœ… Avoid the hottest part of the day where possible.
βœ… A cold muslin kept in the fridge until needed is ideal to place between you and baby when feeding or cuddling, this helps to keep you both cool and comfortable.

Keep baby shaded, cool and where you can see them. πŸ‘Άβ˜€οΈ

🚨 WATER BEADS pose deadly danger to young children 🚨

Are water beads in your home – or in a home your child visits?

Sometimes called sensory beads, jelly beads or gel beads, they may be used for sensory play, crafts and decorations. But they can be extremely dangerous if swallowed.

❌ Water beads can be tiny and easy for a young child to swallow without anyone noticing.

❌ Once swallowed, they absorb fluid within the body and can expand to many times their original size – some can grow as large as a golf ball.

❌ They can cause a life-threatening blockage in a child’s bowel and may require major surgery.

❌ Water beads may not show up on an X-ray, making them difficult to detect.

⚠️ Water beads are NOT recommended for children under 5. Keep them completely out of the reach of babies and young children.

Please share this warning with grandparents, family, friends and anyone who cares for your child - having a conversation will raise awareness and protect children.

Water beads are small and can easily be swallowed without detection. As they bathe in stomach fluids, they expand to many times their original size, posing a serious risk of blockage in a child’s bowel.

Some water beads grow to more than 15 times their original size, up to the size of golf balls.
The beads don’t show up on X-ray, so finding them can be really complicated and the child may need major surgery to remove them.

That’s why they aren’t recommended for under 5s.
