An Update on My Cancer Journey

Dear friends, customers and everyone who has continued to follow my journey,

I thought it was time to share another update on my cancer journey and how things have progressed since I last wrote.

Following my diagnosis, I began what is considered the standard first-line treatment for my cancer. Over the following months I completed eight rounds of chemotherapy. We went into this treatment with a great deal of hope that it would control the cancer and give us some stability.

Unfortunately, after those eight rounds, the scans showed that despite everything I had been through, the cancer was still progressing. The treatment we had hoped would keep it under control was no longer working.

My oncology team therefore decided to move to a second-line chemotherapy treatment, and I received the first session.

Shortly afterwards, however, another problem needed more urgent attention. The cancer had begun growing into and around my oesophageal stent. The stent is a wire-mesh tube that had previously been inserted into my food pipe to keep it open so that I could continue to swallow and eat.

Because of the tumour growth around the stent, my second-line chemotherapy was put on hold after that first session while the doctors dealt with the more immediate problem.

I then underwent 10 sessions of targeted radiotherapy, specifically aimed at reducing the tumour growth around the stent and helping to keep my food pipe open.

Those 10 sessions have now been completed. Unfortunately, I am now experiencing the after-effects of the radiotherapy, and I can honestly say they are not good. It has been a particularly difficult period physically, but I am taking things one day at a time and allowing my body time to recover.

The next step is another scan. The second-line chemotherapy will only resume if that scan shows that the cancer is continuing to progress. So, for the moment, we wait, recover and hope that the radiotherapy has done what we needed it to do.

Looking back, it has been quite a journey—from the shock of the original diagnosis, through eight rounds of chemotherapy, learning that the cancer was still progressing, beginning a new treatment, and then having that interrupted for another course of radiotherapy.

There have been encouraging moments and some very difficult setbacks. Every time we seem to settle into one treatment plan, something seems to change and we have to adapt again.

Through all of this, Vaishali and our family have been incredible. We are coping as best we can, trying to remain positive and continuing to enjoy the good days whenever they come.

Closing Aspect Stationers after 22 years was one of the hardest decisions we have ever made, but we now realise how important that decision was. It has given us the freedom to concentrate on my treatment, spend precious time together and appreciate the things in life that can so easily be taken for granted.

My faith continues to give me strength. There are many things in this journey that I simply cannot control, so I have learned to put my trust in God, take each day as it comes and keep hoping for the best possible outcome. 🙏

And finally, to all our former customers, friends and everyone who continues to ask about me—thank you.

Thank you for the messages, telephone calls, prayers and words of encouragement. Even though the doors of Aspect Stationers have closed, the kindness and friendship we experienced during those 22 years clearly haven’t disappeared. That means an enormous amount to both of us.

The journey isn’t over. There are still difficult days and uncertainty ahead, but there is also hope, faith, family and so much to be grateful for.

So we keep going.

To all my customers and friends of Aspect,

Just a little update on my cancer treatment journey.

I have now completed 4 rounds of chemotherapy, with 4 more still to go. I had a CT scan last Sunday and received the results today.

It wasn’t quite the outcome I had been hoping and praying for, BUT the important news is that the tumours have neither increased nor decreased. The disease is currently stable and being kept at bay — so I’m choosing to take that as a positive and something to build on.

This journey continues to remind me how precious life, health, family and friendship really are. Thank you to everyone who has sent kind messages, prayers and positive thoughts — they genuinely mean more than you know 🙏🏽

A Personal Health update

Dear friends, customers, and our extended community,

I wanted to take a moment to share an update on my health journey, as so many of you have shown such kindness, concern, and support and continue to enquire on my progress.

Late last year, I was diagnosed with cancer. It has been a life-changing and deeply challenging experience for both me and my family. What began as a sudden shock has now become a journey—one that is testing us, but also teaching us patience, strength, and acceptance.

As many of you know, this is the reason we made the very difficult decision to close Aspect Stationers after 22 years of serving the community. The shop was never just a business—it was part of our lives, filled with conversations, friendships, and shared moments over the years. Saying goodbye was incredibly emotional, but at that point, I had to place my health and treatment first.

Since my diagnosis, I have begun chemotherapy and am currently on a 21-day treatment cycle. Today, I am undergoing my third cycle. The treatment itself is not easy—there are good days and more difficult ones—but we are taking each day as it comes.

This journey has been both humbling and grounding. It has reminded me how little we truly control, and how important it is to place faith in something greater. I have found strength in prayer, in quiet reflection, and in trusting God and my Guru, His Holiness Mahant Swami, to guide me through whatever lies ahead.

As a family, we are staying strong together. There are moments of uncertainty, but also moments of deep gratitude—for time, for love, and for the support that surrounds us. The kindness, prayers, and heartfelt messages from so many of you have genuinely lifted our spirits and carried us through some very difficult days.

We are coping, one step at a time, with hope in our hearts and faith guiding us forward.

Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for your continued support—not just as customers, but as a community that has shown us true care and compassion over the last few months.

There have been some rumours circulating that the owner of Aspect Stationers has gone bust. I would like to gently but clearly set the record straight.

The only thing that has “brought us to a stop” is my health, and that is the sole reason for our closure.

I kindly ask that people refrain from spreading unverified information. If you are unsure about something, please ask. Gossip and speculation may seem harmless, but it creates unnecessary negativity within the community and is personally hurtful.

I have been proud to serve this town for 22 years, and I will always be grateful for the support and kindness shown to me over that time.

On a positive note, I am delighted to share that my dear friend and fellow business owner, Carolyn Hill of All Wrapped Up, will be continuing the greeting card offering. She will be stocking the same beautiful cards that so many of you have enjoyed over the years. I have every confidence that Carolyn will carry this forward wonderfully, and I encourage you all to support her.

After much thought, and due to ongoing health issues, we have had to begin a phased reduction of stock at Aspect Stationers.

This is not a rushed decision, but a careful and considered one, and we are deeply grateful for the kindness, understanding, and support our customers continue to show us.
