Sanders Sails Award Winning Sail Maker renowned for making Superior Sails & Bespoke Covers Ranging from Cockpit Tents & Full Boat Covers to Stackpacks & Sprayhoods.

Sanders are renowned for making Superior Sails for Racing, Cruising, One Design and Classic Yachts. Our aim is simple: To make the best performing, highest calibre, most affordable sails. Based near the waterfront in Lymington, Hampshire, Sanders is a Sail & Cover Maker with distinction - offering fast turnaround times, excellent service and expert advice. Our knowledgeable team pay attention to every detail, using materials ranging from traditional woven fabrics to the very latest custom carbon membranes. We have a separate department within the Sail Loft purely dedicated to sail repairs and during the winter we can wash and overhaul sails before storing them in our heated premises until the start of the new season. The Covers Loft situated on site offers a friendly bespoke service specialising in making individual covers to suit ever boat owners' requirements. A family run company established in 1974 by Managing Director Peter Sanders, it currently employs more than 20 people and is now leading the way in making first class Sails & Covers.

Keeping Tradition and Heritage alive 💛

A few years ago Sanders was the chosen Sail & Cover maker for the stunning 1964 Classic Sailing Yacht Kaléa.

Designing and manufacturing a full sail wardrobe, along with producing bespoke covers to complete this truly beautiful yacht was an absolute pleasure for the team.

Using SMAR Azure CAD technology to model flying shapes, we can combine modern sail design with traditional craftsmanship — creating sails by hand that retain the authentic look and character of a classic yacht, while delivering the performance, reliability and longevity expected from a new sail.

The bespoke covers are created through on-site templating, working closely with the owners to understand how each cover will be used in practice. Materials are carefully selected to complement the yacht’s appearance, whilst remaining practical & durable.

We hope you will agree - Sailing Yacht Kaléa is not only beautiful, but the love, attention to detail and care that went into her restoration project is non other than stunning.

At Sanders Sails, we’re proud to keep traditional sail making skills alive — combining heritage techniques with modern technology to create sails and covers that are made to last.

♻ The Sanders Upcycling Sail Store Makeover! ♻

Take a look at the Sanders Upcycling Store Makeover!

In true upcycle spirit we have re-used pallets to create a more user-friendly storage facility. Thank you to various staff members along with ‘Handy-Andy’ who have transformed this area into a great dedicated storage space for ‘once-loved’ sails.

♻ Which ‘Pre-Loved’ Sails do we accept: We accept Dacron, Laminate, Nylon and Membrane sail cloth.

💛 How to leave your sails: We accept clean & dry sails. They do not need to be laundered beforehand – just clean / ideally not mouldy and please NO MUDDY sails!

♻ Folded: Please drop off you sails folded. They don’t need to be folded like a sailmaker pro! Just as neat & tidy as you can get them.

💛 Hardware & Battens: Please remove battens and hardware as currently we are unable to re-purpose these items.

♻ Sails from yachts over 50ft: Please contact us beforehand if you sails are from a yacht over 50ft. This is mainly due to the size/weight of these sails – we just need to check we can take them beforehand.

💛 How to collect sails: Anyone is welcome to collect sails and any end of roll sail cloth which is left in the ‘Upcycling Drop-Off Store’.

♻ Housekeeping: The Sanders Team would be extremely grateful if everyone folds sails back up after looking over them. The aim is to keep the area looking SHIP SHAPE & TIDY!

💛 Cost: FREE! Whether dropping off or collecting – all sails in the ‘Upcycling Sail Store’ are free. If you have some ‘coins’ or ‘notes’ to pop in our RNLI Lymington Lifeboat Collecting Box located in the Sanders Reception – that would be much appreciated – thank you.

Unfortunately, due to how busy the Sail Loft is and time being precious, we are unable to advise on the cloth which has been left and how to use it. We do ask for anyone collecting sails to please collect a whole sail, rather than cutting them up in the ‘Drop-off Area’.
