As an incredibly wise animated monkey (or was he a baboon?) famoulsy said in 1994 'It is time.'

I have been away for AGES. Being a bit unwell, homeschooling, moving house, having babies, looking after babies and generally not fitting into any of my clothes. But the smallest of the three is now at the childminders and even though I STILL don't really fit into my trousers (must get back to ) I am keen to get in amongst it and see whats what in my most favourite of social media hangouts.

As a freelancer you never really get to stop working, and between the proposal I was writing just as I went into labour and the phone calls I had with clients at 2 weeks postpartum, it feels odd to announce that I'm suddenly back to work. But when you're doing it WITHOUT bouncing a baby on your knee it feels a little more real.

So here I am. Forgotten by the algorithm and likely everyone else. But determined to be a part of the conversation nonetheless. Wish me luck.

Since lockdown kicked in and my husband started working from home too I got turfed out of my lovely little study to this chair. It (and the shelf next to it) has now been my office for three months and I feel oddly affectionate towards it? We’ve managed to keep working and not drop too many professional balls during a pretty challenging time. So I felt like giving her a grid shout out. ⠀

Thanks chair. You’re a hero. 👊💚 ⠀

Sometimes, after we’ve had family round for dinner and I’ve lectured some poor relation of mine about some aspect of their life for 2 solid hours before kicking them out into the night, my husband says (after they’ve gone) ‘yeah it was a nice dinner, (that roast vegetable gnocchi you made was DELICIOUS btw) but you were properly in ‘send’ mode tonight.’ ⠀

Send mode: When you are no longer listening and no longer in a conversation. You’re just talking AT somebody. It’s not very sociable. It’s a bit of a dick move, and it doesn’t often result in the strengthening of a relationship. ⠀

Have you ever been guilty of that as a business on social media? It’s an easy thing to do. Just putting your stuff out there and not really investing time in looking and engaging with other people’s content? ⠀

PROACTIVE engagement should be as much of a part of your strategy as the REACTIVE engagement you do when someone likes or comments on your content. There’s a couple of ways you can do this to make sure that you don’t fall down a social media rabbit hole for days AND make sure it’s strategic enough to be relevant to your business. ⠀

⏰ Pop an alarm on your phone 3 times a day and then a timer on for 10 minutes. Sit down with a cup of tea and dive in. Stop as soon as the timer goes off. ⠀

🌟 Start with people you’re already chatting to and have identified as a potential customer. Go to their accounts and see what they’ve been up to. Like, comment and make it clear they’re worth your time. ⠀
💡 Do they have any friends or followers with similar interests that could be relevant to your business? Have a look and see what they’ve been up to. If you have a contact in common you’ve already got the bones of a potential relationship there. ⠀

🔭 Search hashtags relevant to your business. With a bit of practice it will turn up more potential customers. Have a look at what they’re up to and be interested - maybe they’ll return the favour!⠀

Do this consistently and it won’t take long for you to build some momentum - strengthening existing relationships and creating some relevant new ones 🥳⠀

This place really is the nuts sometimes. When the whole of the UK is figuring out how on earth they’re going to get some sun and sea this summer we just walk 10 minutes down the road. 🍀🍀🍀⠀

Looking forward to spending some time away from my desk and out in the sun the next couple of days. I suspect there will be ice cream involved. ⠀

When I signed off for the Christmas holidays last year (just a couple of weeks after this photoshoot with the brilliant New Forest Studio 👆📸), if I'd known what was coming I probably would have made a bit more of a song and dance about popping the old out of office on.

After taking some time to recover following a couple of scary hospital visits in January, I was just getting myself back to fighting fit and ready to re-enter these squares in earnest when lock-down came along and landed me with my 5 year old and 3 year old 24/7 whilst my husband kept working full time for the NHS.

So, basically, I have been a bit quiet. For six months.

Happily now some classes have opened and I can drop the munchkins off a couple of days a week, I've managed to get back to it a little bit. This week I'll even be running some LinkedIn webinars so I think it's safe to officially pop my head above the parapet and announce (to nobody - the algorithm has forgotten me) that I am back and I can't wait to catch up on what you're all up to.

And thanks Hoxton Bakehouse Co. for the loan of your shop for the shoot 😘 Your buns make me happy.

Happy to all the superhero’s out there doing their thing 24/7 🙌🙌🙌

My Nan and Grandad, Olive & Ray Forty on their wedding day in 1947. I spent a lot of time at their house whenI was little and was always a bit obsessed with my Nan’s stories about the war. One day she brought out a massive black bin bag (seriously. They were in a bin bag) full of beautiful postcards. They were sent from my Great Uncle Albert and Great Grandfather Harry to my Great Grandmother Elizabeth over the course of WW1.

I used to play with them constantly and one day she asked me to pick. The ones I wanted to keep. Other than the bald man and the noisy smalls they are then thing I would grab if my house was on fire and I can’t wait to show them to the girls when they’re big enough not to try and eat them or colour them in. I plan on making sure they’re kept OUT of any kind of bin bag for another 100 years.

Back to it after a deliciously long weekend in Lisbon with my oldest friends. ⁣

We’ve been knocking around together for (well over) 30 years and in-the-flesh meetings are few and far between these days. For three and a bit whole days we ate and slept and walked and I took far too many photographs - Lisbon is THE most Instagrammable place I have EVER been - and slept. Did I mention we slept? 😴😴😴⁣

Such a lucky lady to have such great ladies in my life. And also LISBON IS ACE. Get yourself over there pronto. Just make sure you have plenty of battery on your phone...📱📸🙈🤷🏻‍♀️⁣
