Paula Taylor's Home Help this week: Loneliness is a real problem with many people who reside on their own which is why the companionship that I supply to many of my clients makes an unmeasurable difference to their week, we could be chatting over a cuppa or out and about wandering around some shops sharing time together, I love making such a difference to their lives; giving welfare and reassurance updates to family members; vacuumed; sprayed carpet freshener throughout; steam cleaning all hard floors; loaded and unloaded the dishwasher; loading and unloading the washing machine; hanging the laundry out; cleaning; changed bedding and towels; x5 days preparing main meals and puddings and serving the same, along with making up a plate of food tea/supper time later on; watering plants tubs and hanging baskets on the balcony; taking delivery of and unpacking and putting away the weekly grocery shop; companionship over a cup of tea; writing a cheque out for renewal of annual membership to Dorset Blind Association; writing up a Birthday card and a cheque to go in it as a Birthday present; supplying transport to take my client for an emergency dental appointment; ironing and starching; unscrewing some screws that held a piece of timber across what used to be the steps area down/up from the decking to the grass, cutting the wire mesh and tying back so this could be used in the future; watering the decking and back garden tubs, rockery, and pots in the front garden; cleaning with leather cleanser the three chairs and two foot stools; fitting the newly washing covers to three settee's; checking fridge contents and disposing of out of date food items; showing my client how to save properties on a property website and then how to view the saved properties; helping my client to pack for his long weekend trip in Wales, x5 days emptying the dehumidifier; airing a property; planting some white carnation plants around a rockery, calling Pharmacy2U with regards to an order that had not been received; pressure washing part of a patio but water pressure was too intermittent and too low at times to finish; called Wessex Water to advise them of low water pressure (and advised them that this was the same last week when trying to fill the pond) and they have given me guidance to check next week; two coats of paint on a small wall; finalised the grocery order for next Monday; filing lots of paperwork; general tidying and housekeeping; along with much more bespoke domiciliary home help, social care and assistance which has enabled my clients to continue to live independently in their homes.

Further to some time off to rest and recover from having had my Appendix removed, following the surgeon’s advice, it has been back to work as usual this week.
