Back in 2022, we were fortunate enough to join such a stellar team of consultants, architects, and specialists working with Centre for Alternative Technology🌿
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of acting as ecological consultancy lead — project managing the ecology side of the redevelopment. That includes commissioning and overseeing specialist contractors, carrying out surveys, pulling together the final reports, and advising on ecological planning and design.
This redevelopment is all about showing what’s possible when innovation, ecology, and community come together to create a truly regenerative future.
What makes this journey so rewarding is not just the vision of the external project team, but also the incredible in-house skills at CAT that are shaping what’s to come. From woodland and land management to botanical expertise, organic growing, and more — the depth of knowledge among CAT’s staff is a true asset, grounding innovation in lived ecological practice.
The Centre has long been a pioneer in sustainability, and this redevelopment builds on that legacy — embedding biodiversity, ecological resilience, and innovative design at its heart.
The work is very much ongoing, and I’m now focused on finalising numerous reports and wrapping up this season’s reptile surveys, as the project continues to take shape 🌍✨ - Scott Roe
