Sometimes you walk into a room and just know you’re in the right place. Yesterday was one of those days.

I feel incredibly lucky to have been selected for the FFinc Forward Faster Accelerator, a six-month programme sponsored by HSBC, bringing together just 100 women entrepreneurs.

Yesterday we were at HSBC’s headquarters in Canary Wharf, surrounded by an extraordinary group of women building ambitious businesses. What a room to be in!

We’ve already started pitching and making connections that could lead to some exciting collaborations. The conversations were so useful, and the energy in the room was incredible.

There’s something special about bringing ambitious women together to share ideas, knowledge and opportunities, and genuinely want to see each other succeed.

A huge thank you to Tamara Gillan and the FFinc team for creating something so valuable. I’m thrilled to be part of the second cohort.

For us at Winter Audio, it’s an opportunity to keep growing and help more purpose-led businesses and female leaders share their voices, ideas and expertise through podcasting.

So many great connections, conversations, and collaborations and this was only day one.

I can’t wait for the next six months.

Should you host your own podcast or become a guest on someone else's?

We talked about this on the podcast panel at Speak & Shine, and my answer is:

It depends on what you want your voice to do.

If you host your own podcast, you own the conversation.

You can explore the ideas you care about, ask the questions you want to ask and build a body of thought leadership over time.

If you become a guest, you step into someone else's community.

You get to share your expertise with a new audience, build relationships and become part of conversations you might never otherwise have access to.

Both can be incredibly powerful.

And actually, I think many people should do both.

But whichever route you take, the same questions apply:

What is the expertise you want to share?

Why are you saying it?

What does the listener need to hear right now?

And what story will make them care?

Because the best podcasts aren't just about information.

They're about connection and curiosity.

They're about making someone stop what they're doing and think:

“I needed to hear that.”

That's when podcasting becomes more than content.
It becomes thought leadership.

What happens when a room full of women decides to say yes to their own voice?

I got to explore that yesterday at the Speak & Shine Summit at Kindred in London, where I joined the podcast panel with Anna Donaghey, Kay Suthar and Jane Bayler talking about how podcasting can help women be heard with the fabulous woman behind it all Kier Adair!

The theme of the day was ‘Empowering Women to Say Yes’ and there was something lovely about being in a room full of women doing exactly that.

Saying yes to being seen.
Saying yes to sharing their ideas.
Saying yes to using their voice.

On the panel, we talked about the different ways podcasting can help you do that, whether you’re hosting your own show or stepping up as a guest.

But for me, good podcasting always starts somewhere deeper.

What is the expertise you want to share?
Why are you saying it?
And what does the listener need to hear from you right now?

Because it’s not really about having a podcast for the sake of having a podcast.

It’s about having something worth saying and finding the story that brings it to life.

I loved the conversations yesterday, both on stage and afterwards, and came away reminded just how many brilliant women have ideas, experience and stories that deserve to be heard.

One more sleep until the Speak and Shine Summit!

Tomorrow I'll be on the panel alongside Anna Donaghey, Jane Bayler and Kay Suthar, talking about having the confidence to step up to the podcast mic and say yes. Anna and I have worked together on her podcast for years, so I'm especially looking forward to sharing that story on stage.

The programme for the day is strong. Sixteen Elevated Voices speakers covering everything from self-trust and belonging to leading through uncertainty, a keynote from Lucy McCarraher MBE on living with a yes mindset, and a celebration soirée to round things off.

What I value most about events like this is the people in the room. It starts with breakfast and good conversation, and it's full of women who genuinely support each other. That's often where the most useful connections happen.

A good podcast doesn’t happen by accident.

There’s a bit more to it than pressing record and hoping for the best.

For me, there are three things that make a real difference:

Planning what you want to say and why it matters to your audience.

Making sure it sounds good. People will forgive the odd imperfect moment, but they won’t stick around if the sound is hard to listen to.

Really knowing who you’re talking to. What do they want to hear? What questions are they asking? What will make them come back for the next episode? Where do you send them next in your content eco-system.

And then you keep listening, learning and tweaking.

Your podcast will evolve as you do.

Want to get yourself onto more podcasts as a guest?

Podcast hosts can get a LOT of requests, so a generic “I’d love to come on your podcast” email probably isn’t going to get very far.

Instead, think about what you can bring to their audience.

Keep your pitch short and make it personal. Tell them:
• Who you are and what you know about
• Why you like their podcast, ideally mentioning a specific episode or something they’ve talked about
• Why you think you’d be a good fit for their audience
• What you could bring that feels fresh or gives their listeners a different perspective
• How you’ll help promote the episode when it goes live

And most importantly, make it about them, not just you.

A good pitch should make the host think, “Yes, my audience would be interested in this.”

Do your research, find the right podcasts for you and take the time to create a pitch that feels personal.

It might take a little longer, but you’re much more likely to get noticed.
