โ€œIโ€™m based in Cheshire East, mainly covering Knutsford, Mobberley, Wilmslow and Macclesfield whilst still continuing my existing managements in Sheffield which is where I founded my company

A little about me personally โ€ฆ
Im a huge dog lover and spend a lot of my spare time out walking with my furry sidekick Maggie.
Im a house and trance music lover, give me a set of glow sticks and Iโ€™ll start the party ๐Ÿชฉ
Iโ€™m big on great coffee, good conversation and building genuine connections with people.
Iโ€™m also someone who took the leap into self-employment to build something with heart, not just another business.

I joined Circle Networks because running your own business can sometimes feel like a lonely road, and after attending a couple of events already I could instantly see the value in the connections, conversations and support within the community. I wanted to surround myself with like-minded people who genuinely champion one another.

My business is Black Owl Property Ltd
an independent property management and lettings company.
I work closely with landlords and tenants to offer a more personal, hands on and honest approach to property management, focusing heavily on communication, trust and actually caring about the people involved, not just the properties themselves.

What I hope to contribute to the Circle Networks community is energy, support, honesty and genuine connection.
Iโ€™m always happy to share experiences, ideas and encouragement with fellow business owners navigating the rollercoaster of self-employment.

In return, Iโ€™m looking forward to building meaningful relationships, collaborating with other businesses and learning from people whoโ€™ve walked similar paths.

Charlotte England wasnโ€™t looking for another something else to join.

Thatโ€™s the bit we love about this story.

She wasnโ€™t sat there thinking, โ€œI really need another thing in my diary.โ€

She had clients to look after, projects to deliver, messages to reply to and all the normal plates spinning that come with running a business.

And letโ€™s be honest, when youโ€™ve been in business for a while, the idea of โ€œmore networkingโ€ doesnโ€™t always fill you with joy.

Because youโ€™ve probably been in โ€œthoseโ€ rooms.

So when Gillian Schofield suggested Charlotte should come and have a look at Circle Networks, Charlotte could easily have said no.

There are 10 things that no one really talks about when you run a business.

1. Itโ€™s an emotional rollercoaster. And itโ€™s hard.

2. You quickly need to build a network that helps you. This is a game changer.

3. You have to be the face of the business and build influence.

4. Build a team of people to outsource the tasks you hate, to someone who loves to do them.

5. Consistency needs to become your best habit. Read that again.

6. Itโ€™s more than just being good at the thing you do, you have to be a great business owner.

7. More than you expect being a good speaker is keyโ€ฆ for events, pitches, podcastsโ€ฆ and for some on stage.

8. Doing it yourself for free is not the best option.

9. Learn how to sell. Youโ€™ll need to invest in this. Most donโ€™t.

10. Help others. A lot. The more you do this, the more people will help you. Reciprocity will be your friend.

You know that feeling when everything suddenly rests on your business to perform?

When the salary has stopped.

When the security of a steady job has gone.

When there is no guaranteed wage arriving at the end of the month.

When it is all on you to make this work.

That was Stuart Upson a few months into running his graphic design business full time.

Like so many business owners, he did what everyone tells you to do.

He went networking.

But it didnโ€™t exactly set his world on fire.

Creativivity meets leadership meets coaching thatโ€™s our latest new member Sandi Marshall

Introduce myself:

I am Sandi Marshall, founder of The Potting Shed which provides Creative Leadership and Creativity Coaching, based in Congleton. I'm also a jeweller and a writer, and the Co-CEO of a sight and hearing loss charity in Stockport.

My business:

After over 10 years in senior leadership (mainly in the charity sector) and 5 years as a CEO, I gained a level 7 qualification in leadership coaching and discovered I absolutely loved it. I have had a lifetime of being passionate about creativity and I understand the ups-and-downs of the creative process.

I write and make jewellery and find that my creative practice has huge benefits for me personally and as a leader and coach. Intentional creativity has helped me to overcome challenges, build solid teams, develop strategy, manage my own mental health, and be a better leader and coach.

My business (The Potting Shed) helps other leaders to nurture the creativity in themselves, their teams and their businesses, in order to improve creative-thinking, problem-solving, flexibility and innovation, as well as to increase wellbeing and reduce burn-out.

Why I joined:

I enjoy meeting people and building connections, and I like the ethos of Circle Networks (no pressure, real relationships). I'm hoping to build supportive relationships with other people in a range of businesses.

These will likely lead to referrals, collaborations, innovations etc (in both directions) but first-and-foremost this is about no pressure, supportive relationships.

Yesterday was an investment.

In ourselves.
In relationship building.
And giving ourselves permission to relax.

But today my legs are feeling it ๐Ÿ˜‚

The weather was perfect as I arrived in Kirkby Stephen to meet up with Helen Goad and Paul McGowan and Eric ๐Ÿพ

We tackled Nine Standards Rigg, had great conversation, enjoyed some of Louise Walkerโ€™s home made flapjack as we arrived on the peak along withโ€ฆ of course some Yorkshire Tea.

The conversation flowed and at one point touched on Helenโ€™s work around wellbeing, tackling stress and burnout.

Between the three of us weโ€™ve all had our fare share of challenges and helped others to deal with thereโ€™s.

One thing stood out, only by having the right support do people get through the tough times that life throws at us.

This is Helenโ€™s speciality, helping businesses reduce burnout risk by equipping leaders to spot the early signs of stress, overload and disengagement before they become bigger people and performance problems.

If people are your biggest asset then itโ€™s important to look after them.

She thought sheโ€™d try Circle Networks for a month.
Since then it lead to around AED 292,000 (over ยฃ60k) in sales.

When Emma West came to her first Circle Networks event in January 2025, she was only a few months into business in her new role as a Travel Counsellors franchisee.

And she wasnโ€™t convinced.

She said to me:

โ€œIโ€™m not sure if Circle Networks will be of any use. I might try it for a month.โ€

Which to be fair, is exactly how a lot of people feel when they are new in business.

You question every investment.
You wonder which rooms are actually worth being in.
You hope something will help, but you do not want to waste time or money on the wrong thing.

Fast forward 15 months.

Emma recently messaged me and said:

โ€œHi Jamie, finally done some number crunching!

Just over 19% of my all time sales have come from Circle, either members or referrals. Thatโ€™s just over ยฃ60k.

I also have another ยฃ33k(ish) of open enquiries stemming from Circle Networks.

So I guess Iโ€™ll keep the membership ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…โ€

That is roughly AED 292,000 in sales and another AED 160,000 in open enquiries.

From one decision to give it a go thanks to an invitation from Christopher Adams.

This isnโ€™t about just attending events:

It did not happen because Emma joined and sat back.

It happened because she showed up.
Learned how to network.
Built relationships.
Stayed visible.
Kept going.

And those relationships turned into real business.
