Be honest. When someone says "well done on that project," what is your first reply?
If it's "oh, it was just my job," this post is for you. 🤔

Here are 5 things we say that make our best work disappear. 👇

1️⃣ "It was just my job."
Your job description is what you were hired to do. Your story is what you did with it.

2️⃣ "Anyone could have done it."
Then why didn't they? You noticed the problem and you acted. That is the story.

3️⃣ "It wasn't a big number."
A small number is still proof. Taking a task from 2 hours to 30 minutes is a result.

4️⃣ "That was ages ago."
Interviewers ask how you work, not what year it was. An old story still counts.

5️⃣ "I just helped out."
Helped who? With what? What changed? "Just helping" is where your best proof hides.

❌ Your CV says:

✅ It could say:
Cut late deliveries from about 20% to under 6% across 11 routes in three months.

2️⃣

❌ Your CV says:
"Worked with sales and warehouse teams."

✅ It could say:

If you're applying for jobs in the UK, especially Civil Service and NHS roles, and you keep thinking "Which STAR example did I use for that application?", this post is for you.

Most people don't struggle because they lack experience. They struggle because their best work stories are scattered: a CV in the Downloads folder, a personal statement saved as "copy 2", notes in a phone, an old email from three months ago.

Here's a simple 4-step way to fix that today, for free. It's called an Evidence Bank.

1⃣ Pick ONE home
Create one document or note called "Evidence Bank". Every work story goes in it and nowhere else.

2⃣ Write each story in STAR
Situation, Task, Action, Result. One line for each part, so it's quick to reuse and easy to adapt.

3⃣ Add the proof
Put a real number on the result where you can: time, people, budget, scale. No exact figure? Describe the impact. Never invent one.

4⃣ Tag it, then track it
Tag each story with what it proves, for example Communicating and Influencing or Leadership. Then note which application you used it in, so you never reuse a story by accident.

Do this once and every Civil Service application, NHS application, personal statement and interview gets easier.
