WOW Talk About Timing!

As Manchester Pride starts, I've just had my VAT confirmation come through, www.k2b.org.uk becomes a Ltd Company, so I am feeling a bit Proud.

The next steps to business growth, with me now actively bidding on provision tenders, where as up to now, I've been hired by clients that won the tender, which I will still be doing, but now moving forward, my business will be bidding against them.

Exciting times (and bit scary) ahead.

Fish N Chip Friday

Hello and I hope you are all enjoying these sunny days, as we head into the weekend I am happy to say I had a lovely Birthday on Monday, and I have defiantly ticked all of my To-Do lists this week, so it is a fish & chips reward.

On a sad but also positive note, a long standing contract came to an end this week, nothing to do with either side, it has just finished, but I received some lovely feedback, so in honour of my longest standing, and first ever client, I hope you do not mind me sharing some of the comments, and join me as I may raise a glass, but will defiantly be adding mussy peas to my Friday treat.

As my working year end draws near, it makes me thoughtful (and not just about all the food I plan on eating) I was made redundant Christmas 2018, after nearly 18 years, with the retail dip in 2019 I was unable to find a new training manager position, resulting in a full year unemployed which almost broke me mentally as well as financially.

I went self-employed February 2020 with a great start (well for a few weeks) then 5 months nothing with lockdown, but this time I would not let in beat me, and August 2020 I was able to re-launch my training business, and despite 2022 & 2023 almost worse for me financially thanks to the 15 or 15 interest rate increases and energy, and cost of living (like we have all had to cope with).

But I found a new determination, I like to say tenacity, some may say stubborn, but I did it, and one of my proudest achievements is my clients current and previous, with the knowledge I have helped other people in my situation (Redundant, Unemployed, Self-Employed)

I almost gave up a few times but something kept me going, so if you are having a bit of a rough time, Hang In There! Physically, Financially, Mentally, you never know what your future holds.

I am very proud (and a tad tired) to say this was my first week working with a new client The National Career Service, for a FTC.

I first interacted with them towards the end of 2019 after months of unemployment resulted in several ALMOST, or RUNNER UP job applications, and they put the idea into my head to investigate the self-employed option.

This initial conversation lead me onto connecting with People Plus & Standguide on my mini journey of possibilities, which came to a halt early 2020 with lockdown, but did result in my business K2B Training & Development officially starting in August 2020.

Being able to say that both People Plus & Standguide were my first clients and have continued to be so is something I am very proud of, so to add on this NCS contract, is a little icing on the cake.

I'll not lie it's a new challenge, but that is what my business K2B is all about, adapting and reacting.

Looking forward into 2024 I will be continuing my close partnerships with both People Plus & Standguide, while investigating other new possibilities, as in previous years.

I wish all Monday morning emails were like this!

I am assisting a delegate with her self-employed option, and asked if there was anything else I could assist her with, as she is coming to the end of the provision.

What I do know is that talking to you and the advice you have given me has certainly helped in my time of need and encouraged me to take the next steps in my life/career. I like to start my Friday on a positive note, so receiving this testimonial on my LinkedIn profile has made my day & weekend, at a time I am now struggling to pay bills and basically survive, things like this gives me hope.

As times are changing (daily it seems) many of us are looking for new opportunities, so I wanted to share with you all a service that K2B offers with great success and customer satisfaction.

K2B resume review services, is a two sided service I have been offering via my clients such as Standguide and the Kick Start program, along with my own direct clients, and those I work with connected to People Plus.

My delegates range is extremely varied
• School leavers (with or without qualifications)
• Apprenticeships
• Graduates
• Long term unemployed
• People returning to work after raising a family or being a carer
• People with learning difficulties, or mental health barriers
• London professionals who have been made redundant

My service starts with a 121 consultation understand the clients, requirements and employment aspiration along with their current experience and qualifications.

Then the client has two options, the first being a service, I can simply write their CV, with a Speculative Letter, or a specific Cover Letter, which are supplied as a PDF and in an editable format for any future changes they may wish to add.

The second is more of a tutorial partnership, where the end result is the same however I work with the client assisting them with their job searching investigating various opportunities extracting the "Buzz Words" from the job description and personal specification from the job advert.

I then create a business sector specific (Master CV) along with the speculative letter, the main difference being with this option I would teach and assist the client to edit their CV ensuring it is relevant to the position they are applying for, along with a specific cover letter.

This way the client has the knowledge to progress with their job searching, to extract the buzz words, utilise their transferable skills and create their own CV Library

Decision Time!
Dear connections, I would really value your input on a very important question.

Like many of us in the UK these last 14 months have been terrible for self-employed small business, with many closing or going bankrupt.

Eleven interest rate increases on loans and mortgages, Energy bills double or triple, with anther huge increase next month, local tax's increasing to their maximum allowed, self-employed tax increase, oh and of course a huge spike in the cost of living. And despite the

UK Government saying self-employed & small businesses are the lifeblood of the UK, they seem intent to put us out of business and out on the street.

So now my question, as right now my business looks successful with a strong and steady income, however these rising costs now equate to over double my bills compared to this time last year, so breaking point time!

Do I keep going and believe things will get better, with new clients, increased income, or shut up shop, liquidate and start back onto the job searching treadmill
