As a transgender woman and a s*x worker Rachel has been affected by stigma and discrimination, including from her own family when she was just a child. Despite her experiences Rachel is a strong woman who is proud of her identity: "Let's be proud of who we are, being a s*x worker, being a trans-woman, but first and foremost a human being, with dignity and integrity."
She has founded 'Voice of Hope', a new community-based organisation in Walvis Bay, Namibia. She plans to support her peers to improve s*x workers' knowledge of their human rights and increase their access to s*xual health and HIV prevention services.
'Proud to be Rachel' is her personal story, and an abridged version of 'I am Rachel'. 'Voice of Hope' receives technical support from Namibia's national LGBTI network, Out-Right Namibia. In turn, Out-Right receives support from Positive Vibes, the Alliance Linking Organisation in Namibia. www.aidsalliance.org
This short film has been co-produced by The Lemon Twist and Gemma Taylor for the International HIV/AIDS Alliance.
