A question I think more small businesses should ask: do you actually know who is providing your phone and broadband?
With everything happening around BT and TalkTalk, itβs a good reminder that there can be more behind a service than the name on the bill. Iβve had customers who came to me where their business numbers were almost lost because of what was happening with BT. That can cause a real headache for a small business.
If customers have had the same number for years, it could be on their website, Google, Facebook, menus, paperwork and saved in hundreds of phones. Losing that number isnβt something you want to discover after the event.
When Iβm helping a business with mobiles, broadband or phone systems, I look at the whole setup.
Who provides it?
What does the business rely on?
What happens if it stops working?
Is there a backup?
And importantly, what are the pros and cons of the options available?
I think customers should understand those things before they commit, rather than just looking at the cheapest price.
Sometimes the cheapest option is absolutely fine.
Sometimes it isnβt.
The important thing is knowing what youβre buying and what happens if something goes wrong. Thatβs where a proper conversation can make a big difference.
