The latest CIPD Good Work Index is a useful reminder that workplace culture is experienced through everyday behaviour, not simply described in values and policies.
Based on responses from more than 5,000 UK workers, it found that one in four had experienced conflict at work. Of those, 51% simply let it go. One in five employees said they had no channel through which to express their views.
The report also places line management and leadership among the factors with the greatest influence on job satisfaction, performance, innovation and retention.
Giving people a voice is only part of the answer. What matters is how leaders listen, respond and act when someone uses it.
