And almost nobody warns them it’s coming.

The business grows. The team grows. The complexity grows.

And suddenly, the thing that made you brilliant at the start starts working against you.

This is not a character flaw. It is a transition.

Some exciting news to share with our community today. 🧡

We are thrilled to welcome two exceptional women to The Maverick Group Inc. Advisory Board: Lana De Silva and Shelley-Ann Pieterse.

Lana brings a decade of global experience at Gartner, working at the highest levels with CHROs across the world. Her ability to connect People & Culture strategy with real commercial impact is extraordinary, and we are so excited about the perspective and network she brings to Maverick.

Shelley-Ann is a former Managing Director at Accenture with over 20 years of global consulting experience, and currently serves as Chair of the Veblen Director Programme. Her depth of expertise, executive credibility, and passion for people-first leadership make her a perfect fit for everything we stand for.

We could not be more proud to have both of you in our corner. Welcome to the Maverick family. 🙌 🧡

We filled the room… but more importantly — we told the truth.🔥

The Unspoken Truth Event | Manchester🔥🔥🔥🔥

There were so many moments yesterday that I’m still processing…

💭 “Knowing better doesn’t mean doing better.”
💭 “Why have a voice when you can’t speak?”
💭 “The desire to change is there… but nothing actually changes.”

And this one…

👉🏾 Different voices. Same problem.

We talked about:

👉🏾 The glass ceiling AND the glass cliff

👉🏾 The pressure of being “the only one” in the room

👉🏾 The race to the top — and what it really costs

But also…

✨ How being the only can be a superpower

✨ How change needs more than intention — it needs ex*****on

✨ How we move from talking… to actually doing

One thing that stayed with me:

Our first ever exhibition as The Maverick Group was a SUCCESS 🙏🏾🧡

What a day to be alive!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Thanks to for creating such a needed and impactful platform for business in Manchester and Greater Manchester to showcase their work.

We had a great time speaking with people, connecting and sharing what we do. Great conversations.

Everyone that came to our stand affirmed what we are doing is currently and loudly needed. This further boosted my confidence in the work that we are doing at TMG.

One of the best moments was when a new business approached us and wanted to ensure they out the right practices in place and would love to have us support them- gosh, that blew our minds because this is what and how we want new and small businesses to be thinking in order to have a great workplace culture that will not only attract the right people into their organisation but to retain them. Whoosh.

Looking forward to following up and staying connected with our new connections.

It was extra special because we got to exhibit alongside some of our friends 🧡🧡🧡 Thank you all for making a special and fun day.

Perks don’t build culture. Standards do.

I remember working in organisations where the perks were genuinely impressive.

Free lunches. Team socials. Flexible perks.

They were great additions. But they didn’t work for me.

And I remember sitting there thinking: “These are nice… but what do I do now?”

Because perks don’t tell you:

❓ What behaviour is acceptable.
❓ How performance is measured.
❓ What leadership actually expects.

They create atmosphere. But they don’t create alignment.

🔎 Tolerance patterns

👉🏾 What gets excused becomes embedded.
👉🏾 Missed accountability.
👉🏾 Inconsistent leadership.
👉🏾 Underperformance dressed up as “potential.”

Culture is built in what you repeatedly allow.

📌 Behavioural clarity

❓ Do your managers know what excellence looks like — behaviourally? Not just “collaboration” as a value. But how collaboration shows up in meetings, decision-making, feedback and delivery.

⚖️ Performance misalignment

🤷🏾‍♀️ You say you value teamwork. But reward individual heroics.

🤷🏾‍♀️ You say you value innovation. But punish mistakes.

When systems contradict statements, people follow the system every time.

Perks are enhancements. Standards are foundations. ✅
