Interested in the archaeology of the North Pennines National Landscape? If so, please join Colin Elder and the team in the Nenthead Big Dig. Tickets are free, but going quickly, and can be booked on the link below.

Get hands-on in an archaeological dig this summer and uncover items from the past.

The Nenthead Big Dig will take place from 1 to 4 August and 6 to 11 August, 10am to 4pm each day. Volunteers and community members, with a professional archaeologist, will dig a series of small test pits in gardens and fields around the village.

We are very excited to be hosting Medieval crafting workshops throughout the up-coming Rochdale Medieval Fayre! Hope to see you there!

*DATE FOR THE DIARY* A huge Medieval event is set to transform Rochdale town centre this June.
A giant Medieval encampment will take over Rochdale Town Hall
Square, with 80 actors from 12th century living history group, Historia Normaniss, set to transport visitors back in time.
Expect combat displays, live cookery demonstrations and reenactments of daily life from the period, as well as archery and coin striking sessions for the littles.
Medieval manuscipt workshops and castle building will also be on offer, alongside Medieval fashion shows, music and much more.
Best of all, this fabulous immersive event is completely FREE

Are you interested in archaeology? Would you like to be involved in surveying sites?

Come along to the consultation evening at Nenthead Village Hall, on Thursday 26 March, 6.30pm to 8pm. The project will involve the excavation of small test pits to help explore and better understand the area’s historic development.

All ages are welcome to the drop-in event. Children must be supervised by an adult. Free refreshments will be available.

We're very excited to be supporting this exciting local history programme in Westgate. If you're in the area please come meet us on the day to find out more!

As part of the village histories project, we’ll be exploring and recording the natural and cultural heritage of Westgate and its surrounding area.

There are drop-in evenings every month on a Wednesday, 6pm to 8pm, starting 25 February in the village hall at Westgate.

This exciting project aims to bring together local knowledge, memories, and research to create a lasting record for future generations.

Free refreshments will be available throughout the session.
