Giving my talk to the ' Kingsdown Garden Society' in st. Johns village hall . ' Mediterranean Plants for the Kent Coast' - lovely portrait ( next to a very young QE ) and poem on the wall. Kingsdown has a south facing 'undercliff ' running down towards Walmer castle. ( where the duke of Wellington and QEQM , were each long-standing wardens of the cinque ports and where Julius Caesar landed and met stiff resistance from the locals .

Will and George’s Uzbek adventures- day 1 long night changing flights in Istanbul, spent day 1 in Tashkent to collect car ( a ubiquitous white Chevrolet) and vainly hunt for our lost luggage at the airport morning and evening. A big modern city of 3 million people and country of 36 million people. The country lies on the north side of the river Oxus ( transociana) crossed over by Alexander the Great . A wide mix of different peoples . The tajik people are of Turkic origin and speak a form of Persian . There are are lot of oriental looking Kazak people - all are friendly. The greeting is salaam amelicum- peace be with you , with your right hand over your heart and/ or lots of shaking of hands of everyone around the room .

Thankyou Anhelina for sharing this moving poem with us on Sunday from a father to his daughter - I hope images of our gardens , the cherry and apricot blossom , the flower garlands and of children playing happily - reach their way back to the dads back home . - and yes we hope to come over soon and explore your lovely country - pavlo Vyshebaba

To my daughter

Please don’t write to me of the war,

Tell me instead of the gardens around,

Do the grasshoppers sing the songs we adore?

Do the snails slowly inch upon sprouts?

Tell me about the words people use

To name their cats in faraway nations.

The only thing I want you to refuse

Is to hide between the lines your frustrations.

Do cherries or apricots bloom near your dwelling?

If they give you a bouquet of flowers,

Don’t talk about your escape from the shelling

Tell them we lived here the best life of ours

Let Ukraine become the land to explore,

Invite foreign friends and every person you meet.

We will show everybody after the war

How grateful we are for our children’s peace.
