We were pleased to welcome Simon Chan, Editor of Quarry Management Management, to Longcliffe for a tour of our Derbyshire operations.

The tour included some of the major projects currently progressing across our sites, including the new agricultural lime granulation plant and the early stages of the Aldwark South quarry extension.

Simon also met with Managing Director Paul Boustead and members of the Longcliffe team to learn more about the business, our current investment programme and our plans as we approach our centenary year.

We look forward to seeing the full feature in Quarry Management magazine in early 2027.

Congratulations to this year’s winners at Wirksworth Bowls Club’s annual trophy competition.

Paul and Ann Shaw took the honours, with Sandra Maycock and Mike Cumiskey finishing as runners-up.

They are pictured with Longcliffe Health and Safety Manager Tony Woodroffe (left), who joined club members for the presentation.

Longcliffe is proud to continue its long-standing sponsorship of Wirksworth Bowling Club and to support local sport in the communities around our operations.

Back-to-back promotions for Wirksworth & Middleton Cricket Club!

Congratulations to the 1st XI, who will compete in Division 1 of the Derbyshire County Cricket League next season after securing a second successive promotion.

It caps another successful season across the club, from strong performances by the senior and youth teams to 45 young players taking part in its All Stars and Into Cricket sessions.

We’re proud to have sponsored the club for eight years and to continue supporting an organisation that plays such an important role in our local community.

Congratulations to everyone involved, and best of luck for next season.

Another major milestone for our new granulated lime plant, and a great example of the teamwork involved in delivering a project of this scale.

Four new silos have now arrived at our Brassington Moor Quarry site following a four-day journey from their manufacturer in Germany. Each is 22 metres long, 3.75 metres wide and capable of holding around 200 tonnes of fine powder used in the production process.

Getting them safely from factory to site and into position has involved careful planning and coordination between our own project team, contractors, specialist drivers and crane operators. The 31.5-metre-long delivery vehicles required some impressive manoeuvring on site, before cranes of up to 140 tonnes lifted the silos into place.

A huge team effort, and another significant step forward for this major investment.

We’re continuing to invest in our vehicle fleet, with new tippers and tankers joining the operation.

The latest additions include upgraded Volvo FH Aero tractor units, featuring an enhanced aerodynamic design developed to improve fuel efficiency.

The new tippers will support our aggregates service, while the additional tankers will strengthen our capacity to deliver industrial powders to customers across the UK.

An important investment in maintaining a modern, efficient fleet and supporting a reliable delivery service for our customers.

A brilliant effort from colleagues across Longcliffe as we came together for this year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Teams at Head Office, Curzon Lodge and Brassington Moor Quarry took part in a Bake Off-themed event, with plenty of homemade treats and a little friendly competition for the title of best bake.

Congratulations to Yvonne, who took the top spot with her coffee and walnut cake, and thanks to everyone who baked, donated and got involved.

Together, we raised £667.87 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

It was great to welcome members of our Liaison Committee back to Longcliffe for their latest twice-yearly meeting and site tour.

The visit included updates on our new quarry extension - Aldwark South; our new agricultural lime granulation plant; and developments at our Curzon Lodge transport depot.

These meetings are an important opportunity to share what’s happening across the business, while giving local representatives the chance to ask questions and provide feedback.

Great to see our major investment project continuing to take shape and remaining on track for completion by the end of 2026.

Our new multi-million-pound granulation plant at Brassington Moor Quarry will produce high-purity granulated lime, helping UK farmers optimise soil pH, support crop health and improve fertiliser efficiency.

It is one of Longcliffe’s most significant investments in decades and another important step in our long-standing commitment to British agriculture.

High standards start with strong in-house testing, and our laboratory team plays a vital role in maintaining the quality and consistency our customers rely on.

Recent investment includes a new XRF Spectrometer, alongside further testing equipment ahead of our new granulation plant coming online. We are investing in our people too, with Johnson Akor recently joining as Laboratory Technician, Julie Carey starting a Leadership Apprenticeship, and Daisy Salt and Emma Mycroft also looking to develop their skills further. In addition, Quality and Environmental Compliance Officer Sarah Wholey secured a level 6 NVQ in Health and Safety last year.

The team works closely with Tony Hutton, Quality, Compliance and Environmental Manager.
Together, they help ensure we have the people, capacity and testing capability in place to maintain the high standards our customers depend on.

Following Ian McDonald’s remarkable 47-year milestone in August, we’re celebrating another fantastic long-service achievement at Longcliffe. Congratulations to our Engineering and Continuous Improvement Manager, Mark Whittaker, who has now been with the business for 35 years.

Mark joined Longcliffe in 1991 at just 16 as an Electrical Apprentice and has progressed through a number of engineering roles during his career. Today, he manages our engineering and continuous improvement functions, including overseeing construction of our new multi-million-pound granulated lime plant.

Mark has also helped develop engineering apprentices throughout his 35 years with Longcliffe, with some now in senior positions within the business.

His advice for the future? “Continue to look to the future, invest in people, remain dynamic.”
