Five days, one city, one industry: pet. This year’s Pet Fair Asia brought together over 2,600 exhibitors from around the world at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, and our team was there for one reason: to find what’s next, before it lands in Europe.

As you can see in the photo, we ran into plenty of familiar faces along the way, old contacts and new ones. What kept catching our eye was the packaging side: teams working on fully recyclable pouches, smarter materials, less waste per bag. Exactly the kind of thing worth bringing home.

China’s pet market crossed 312 billion yuan in 2025, with 126 million dogs and cats now living in Chinese cities. That scale is hard to picture until you’re standing in the middle of it. It’s also exactly why being here in person, not just sourcing from a distance, changes what you’re able to bring back.

It’s a placeholder, not a quote. 💸 The real price depends on quantity, materials, packaging, and certifications — and once You send a proper RFQ, the proforma often comes back 30% higher than the listing. This is why first-time importers get burned. You budget against a fantasy number, then reality lands in Your inbox and the maths stops working. If You’re sourcing from China, never plan around Alibaba prices. Plan around a real proforma invoice with Your exact specs. That’s the only number that matters. 🇨🇳📦

Last week we were in Nuremberg for Interzoo the world's pet industry under one roof 🐾 This edition was the biggest yet: over 2,300 companies from 70 countries across 15 halls. We spent four days on the floor, talking to manufacturers, checking samples, and figuring out what's actually worth bringing into the UK 🇬🇧 A lot of it was cat litter. A lot of it was honest, no-nonsense pet food. That's the part we care about. Already working on what's next.
