Three years ago today we were driving through Mongolia. We always said that even if we didn’t reach the finish line, we wanted to get as far as Mongolia.

We’re gutted to have had to sell Buzzy, the van that got us there safely (and in Matt’s case, back again) to the great scrap heap in the sky. Buzzy was more than just a van to us, and we were heartbroken when the rusting to his chassis got so bad that we couldn’t save him.

Buzzy was an equal third of our Mongol Rally team. Thanks for the adventures, we won’t forget you ❤️

“Essentials for a quality campsite” according to Matt & Billy

1. Nice flat, sheltered field kindly provided by a consenting farmer
2. Roaring campfire, raised off the ground so as not to scorch said nice flat field.
3. Welding glove to wrangle roaring fire
4. Fire extinguisher in the event of over-exuberant fire wrangling
5. Spare tyre as a dog lead anchor to ensure safety of the sheep you’re sharing the field with
6. Stagg chilli - no questions asked camping essential
7. Veggie chilli for the fussy one ()
8. Box of wine - the revelation of this trip and a miracle of an invention. Filled with wine (3 bottles worth), no clinking breakable glass and soo easy to pack away... if there’s any left...

We’re back home where the laptop is a normal enough temperature to hold its charge for longer than 2 mins and let us look at our snaps!

Going through our pictures all lovely and warm it’s hard to remember quite how cold it was that first morning in the Lake District. The clear skies made for a stunning day though, with spectacular views down the valley.

It’s pretty chilly, so we’re getting the camp fire going nice and early today. 🔥
A lovely farmer has let us stay on his land tonight so we’ve got a nice sheltered spot. There’s also the cutest pair of little goats called Harris & Tweed 🐐😍

This morning was all about Emily’s happy place surrounded by trees, and now it’s Matt’s turn. Sleeping by the sea is just the ticket. West Country boy loves his water!

2 fire trucks, 1 fire car, 3 police cars, 3 network rail vans and a pickup and 2 tow trucks later the Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness train service is running again, and & Fizz are unharmed. Thank you to the lovely and highly professional points engineers for their assistance and good humour, and big thanks to the fire service and police officers!

We’re in Skye! While not as easy to find wild camp spots away from the road as on the mainland, the scenery is nothing short of spectacular. We arrived during a proper rainstorm so spent the rest of the day hiding away in the van. The next morning when we woke up it was like we were somewhere completely new. Clear skies, no wind and beautiful views. We walked for a few hours around the coast, scrambling around streams crossing the path and hopping over boggy bits.
