I recently supported a client who had received a series of very demanding and threatening letters from an AI-powered UK legal advice provider. 😅
The correspondence was persistent, strongly worded, and repeatedly threatened Employment Tribunal action.
What was concerning was that my client had not realised they were dealing with an AI-powered service until I pointed it out.
Because the provider does not appear to operate in the same way as a traditional regulated law firm using human solicitors, it raised real concerns about tone, proportionality and how employers are expected to respond to such correspondence.
The employee later decided to resign and bring matters to an end mutually, yet further letters continued to arrive.
For many employers, receiving this type of correspondence can feel intimidating, especially when it is fast-paced, legalistic and repeatedly refers to potential claims. It can be difficult to know what is genuine risk, what needs a formal response, and what is simply pressure.
This is where practical HR support is so important.
AI may have a place in the future of work, but people issues still need people.
Keep humans in managing human issues!!!💪
