This Grown in Britain Week, we're celebrating the importance of bringing more British-grown timber into everyday use.

The UK imports £9.4bn of timber every year, despite the huge potential of our own forests and woodlands. With the right management, British woodlands can provide sustainable timber, support wildlife, capture carbon and reduce our reliance on imports.

That's why Grown in Britain matters to us. At English Woodlands Timber, we're proud to champion homegrown timber and support a future where more of the wood we use comes from responsibly managed British forests.

This isn’t just an Ash board. It’s over a century of growth, resilience and woodland history.

Long before it became a usable piece of timber, this tree stood through some of the most significant moments in modern history. Each year it recorded every season in its growth rings, creating a story that can still be read today.

Standing beside a board like this is a reminder that timber is one of the few materials that carries its own history within it. No two pieces are ever the same.

What would you make with a board like this?

Our beam resaw is one of the hardest-working machines in the yard, helping us turn large timber sections into exactly what our customers need.

Whether we’re cutting structural beams to size or producing feather edge boards for fencing and cladding, the resaw allows us to process timber accurately and efficiently while making the most of every piece.

Here, Nick takes you through this machine and what it’s capable of.

From the foundations to the final peg, it’s been great watching this project come together.

Dan has been building our new structural sales office in the beam yard using the very same timber kit system we supply to our customers. Every component is precision cut, clearly labelled, and supplied with all the oak pegs needed, making assembly as straightforward as possible.

Through sunshine, downpours, and everything in between, each stage has shown just how satisfying it is to see an oak frame take shape.

Whether you’re planning a garden room, garage, workshop, or something much bigger, our structural timber kits are designed to make the build process simpler without compromising on quality.
